Anyone heard from Cal Poly Pomona yet?

I would suggest that we work with Melissa Fowler in getting this article written. A little pressure from the school newspaper would go a lot further than a bunch of annoyed individuals calling and pestering the admissions bureaucrats about our admissions status. Honestly, I don’t think they’ll care much about us as the Poly Post.

petrarch:

I’m a transfer with about a 3.2 GPA. Unfortunately, my GPA from 15 years ago when I didn’t give a crap about going to school has come back and reared its ugly head. :frowning: I could probably take an extra year and try to make up some of the classes, but since I’m in at a decent school, I’m just going to move forward.

As for wanting to choose CPP over UCI, I am a MechE major and prefer a more hands on approach to learning. Not to mention, the Formula SAE at CPP seems to be more competitive (Though my goal will now be to beat CPP’s team  ). Simply, I feel that CPP would have been a better fit for me. Frankly, I’m not as concerned with what school my degree is from as opposed to what I learn. Learning the material is much more important than a piece of paper in the long run. That said, I’m not hugely disappointed for having to “settle” for UCI, but CPP was my first choice. The irony is, I applied to UCI using the TAG program as a back-up once I learned that admissions could be a problem at all schools. I was initially planning to try and get into CPP in the Spring session, to avoid the impaction of the ME program, but then the budget crisis caused them not to accept apps for spring.

As for the direction this thread seems to be going, there is no need to take out your frustrations on each other. The situation sucks for everyone. The schools included. Enrollment is high everywhere these days so its much more competetive. I can certainly understand the frustration. Especially for fellow transfers. Freshmen can still go to a CC and then transfer in a couple of years. Transfers who have a lot of units probably won’t have much else they can take at the CC level. I highly recommend to any freshmen who don’t get into a University to keep your GPAs up and inquire about a Transfer Admissions Guarantee program (TAG) at the CC you attend. I’m very glad I looked into it.

i check my application status says “accepted waitlist” wats that mean?.does it mean accpeted?

It means you accepted the waitlist offer.

Thanks for the article Melissa. It seems like the frustrations will continue since the admissions office isn’t willing to talk. One thing is for sure; the admissions process is in complete chaos.

[The Poly Post - Applicants report delays in admissions](http://www.thepolypost.com/news/applicants-report-delays-in-admissions-1.2264370)

thanks for writing this article. I found out today a girl I know who applied as a ftf who had a 3.6 got an acceptance letter earlier this year, then on may 1st got a letter saying she was wait listed.
i am giving up on poly cause there is no logic behind their decisions.

Thank you Melissa for wriiting the article. Hopefully someone from admissions reads it.

It seems like only undergrad admission is experiencing total chaos. My GF who applied for her Masters got accepted almost right away.

Thanks for writing that article, hopefully it will shed some light to the Office of Admissions and Outreach in the frustration we are all experiencing through the application and admission process.

Thank you for your application to the Civil Engineering program at Cal Poly Pomona for Fall 2010. After careful evaluation, we regret to inform you that your application was not in the group that has been approved for admission to the program.

We had a very large of applicants, approximately 1300 and the department was only able to admit 160. Unfortunately, we had to deny some very good applicants.

We wish you success in your academic endeavors.

sorry to hear that @ribbitmetimbers. I wish I could give you my spot. I got in for civil engineering (first-time freshman) but i’m going to davis now.

You are a very cool kid maixn92. That’s a kind thing to say. I wish the best at Cal-Davis, Go Aggies!

I’ve been lurking this thread for a while but I just wanted to weigh in.
Out of high school (2007) I was accepted into many universities with a 3.8 but decided to take EE at Cal Poly SLO. After my freshmen year I decided that I didn’t like it there and left to hopefully transfer over to Pomona, however in 2008, this was the first year they instated that they will no longer accept lowerdiv transfers (initial budget crisis effects), then withdrew my application. Since then I’ve been at a CC. Fast-forward 2 years later today, with enough credits I attempt to transfer again but I get flat out rejected-no redirect.

Now I find myself stuck after a 2 year “investment”. My back up school was SJSU, but not being a Santa Clara resident, I couldn’t even land on the waitlist.

Sorry to add to the horror stories for this thread, but I just want to know where people are resorting to now? I really don’t want these 100 quarter units to go to waste at devry or something.

Unfortunately, a lot has changed in the past few years. I’m sure its painfully obvious in hindsight, but you really should have applied to more schools. I only applied to 4 since I’m not in a position to attend a college that I can’t reasonably commute to. When I initially decided to go back to school, CSUF and UCI weren’t even schools I really considered. I actually didn’t even consider UC’s due to cost regardless of how well I thought their programs might fit my learning style or not. But ironically, they were the only 2 schools I got into (rejected at Pomona and Long Beach). And if UCI’s financial aid wasn’t as generous for me as it was, I’d probably be enrolling at CSUF.

I’m honestly not sure what kind of options you have. I’d probably contact a bunch of schools and see what they might have to offer. Don’t hold your brewath though. A lot of people are likely to be in similar situations. Other than that, all I can advise is for you to chalk it up as a learning lesson and apply again next year (perhaps some private schools might take apps for winter/spring though?). As I said in a previous post, find out about the TAG program at various universities and take any classes you need to ensure you qualify for it. In the meantime, you could try and take on a job so you can save up for your time at a university (a great option might be to try and secure a job as a tutor so you can help keep your knowledge of a subject sharp. Couldn’t hurt to have that on an application either. Another option might be to try and see what you can do to help bring up your GPA. It might give you a better chance of getting in the school you want. Ultimately, what’s done is done. Might as well turn this into an opportunity…

Hello, I just wanted to inform you guys that on broncodirect there is a new link to orientation registration (finally…). This is for people who got accepted I believe. To all that have not yet been accepted, I wish you the best of luck.

my application is still in “ready for review” status. everytime i call and actually get through i get, “check back in 2 weeks” or “if you haven’t heard anything call back in 2 days”. I live in Hawaii, and Cal Poly was the only one accepting lower division transfer that were vets, so my options for a 4 yr college that had exactly what I wanted to study in were limited to just this one college. Now I have to wait to find out if I got accepted and if not I’ll have to use my veteran benefits for a community college. i can’t even start looking into other schools because i don’t want to settle for a community college if i don’t have to. well tomorrow i am calling the lady. hope i get some good news  this whole process has been stressful enough!

lillies98, that really sucks! i wish you luck! hope you got in!

Wow, I haven’t been in this site in a month and when I finally come to check I see that there is still people wait listed for Cal Poly Pomona in this forum. Cal Poly Pomona is lagging it!

hmm i got in today somehow after it said i was rejected like 3 weeks ago. oh well im already going riverside.

Wow. I got provisional admit today after being eligible for consideration for months and then being waitlisted after that. I was ready to go to RCC so I’m pretty excited to go to Pomona.

Congrats dgallagher91. My status is still accepted waitlist, hoping I’ll get some breeze by the end of this month. Are u a transfer student by the way?
