For those of you with 35/36: Scored 35 Composite, 35 English, Math Science, 33 Reading
Did you consider the ACT to be “hard”?: No.
Were you confident on all your answers?. All except 1 english (probably the only 1 i got wrong) and 2-3 Reading
How much prep work did you do? 0 if you consider going through prep books to be prep work. But I read a LOT of books in preparation/
How many time had you taken the ACT before you got the 35/36? once, scored 32 first time 3
Do you have any tips for me to get a score of 34+? Read a LOT of books. I read Dickens, Hemingway, and Capote. It really helped me build my reading comprehension and speed, which is critical for reading and science. Math and english is just about not making dumb mistakes and keeping concentration.

For those of you with 35/36: Scored 35 Composite, 35 English, 34 Math 35 Science, 36 Reading
Did you consider the ACT to be “hard”?: Not really?
Were you confident on all your answers?. Most of them, but I didn’t have time to check everything
How much prep work did you do? Minimal for the ACT, but A LOT for the SAT which was the week before. Only took each test once
Do you have any tips for me to get a score of 34+? Go quickly so that you have time to check things over…after the ACT I felt like I had run a realllyyy long sprint haha

i need help with the math and science part how to study?

Hey guys, I’m taking it in April looking to upgrade a 32 to a 34+ (35 or 36 would be ideal haha) and was wondering if y’all 35 and 36ers had any tips for the reading and science sections. english is straight forward for me and math is my best consistently but reading i’m timing out a lot and science i think i’m over thinking the questions.
Thanks guys

I know a girl that scored a 36. She scored it as a Junior and, is a Senior this year. (She is only 16) But, she really worked her butt off. I would notice she ALWAYS had some kind of prep book in her hand…

readings a race against the clock (it was my only 35) science is sort of as well but i found it a lot easier i guess cause my mind is wired that way…

I got a 35
Last year three kids got 36, out of I think about 600

Did you consider the ACT to be “hard”? No
Were you confident on all your answers? Most
How much prep work did you do? None
How many time had you taken the ACT before you got the 35/36? First time
Do you have any tips for me to get a score of 34+? i went in cold…

Did you consider the ACT to be “hard”? Easier than the SAT?
Were you confident on all your answers? Umm, after the test I felt pretty well. Ended up with extra time so I was able to go back to most of my unsure answers.
How much prep work did you do? I did the practice tests in the red act book.
How many time had you taken the ACT before you got the 35/36? First time, got a bit lucky maybe?
Do you have any tips for me to get a score of 34+? For reading, read fast. Try to understand the story, ask questions about the passage in your head. Science: I looked at the questions first, then tried to fish out the answers. Actually ended up with extra time…
Overall: Try and immerse yourself in the topic, esp for science and English. Ask yourself questions, talk to yourself-- helps you remember crap. Don’t stay on a single question too long. OH, and have a motivation going into it. Helped me a lot I think. (Mine was going to my favorite country over summer: hella cheesy but it worked-> brought charms and everything to pump me up). Read over a few practice problems before the test-- kinda gets you prepared and in the mindset.

I got a 35, but I didn’t prepare for the ACT…do you think I could improve to a 36 if I were to retake it?

^It’s possible, but I wouldn’t try. The difference between a 35 and 36 is so minimal that it wouldn’t be worth the prep time and 4 hour testing time. Spend your time on ECs and essays, not making up one insignificant point on the ACT.

According to the ACT website close to 1200 out of approximately 170000 test takers got a 36 last year. 5500 out of 170000 got a 35. That’s approximately 4% of all test takers.

Did you consider the ACT to be “hard”? Not especially
Were you confident on all your answers? Most
How much prep work did you do? A couple of practice tests
How many time had you taken the ACT before you got the 35/36? Second time (went in cold on the first try and got a 33)
Do you have any tips for me to get a score of 34+? Do enough prep where you’re getting 35-36 on each practice test.

Are you sure you don’t mean out of 1700000? Because a 34 is still in the 99 percentile.

^yeah thats probably right

@kathicksryn I got a 35 (1 subscore point away from a 36). To be honest the only difference I think a 36 would make would be that my school would get a cool plaque and I could tell everyone “I got a 36”. The difference between a 35 and 36 is so small that I doubt any colleges make a significant distinction between the two

I got a 35 today ( I’m so excited so I hope I don’t sound snobbish or anything)
Did you consider the ACT to be “hard”? Not that hard, some aspects I think like luck and time can be hard
Were you confident on all your answers? Not all, I’m actually surprised
How much prep work did you do? Not a lot honestly, I arrived to the States in July, but I especially practiced under test conditions
How many time had you taken the ACT before you got the 35/36? Second ( first 33 )
Do you have any tips for me to get a score of 34+? Go in confident, the second time I went in knowing I already had a good score so I was calm and it helped me, whilst the first time I wasn’t used to standardized tests and I was stressed. Try to be cool and focused, if you have the knowledge you’ll get there, if not work and practice a little more.

I just got a 35 for the December 2014 ACT yayy 35 eng, 35 math ( I thought I would get 36 ), 34 reading and 35 science.
Did you consider the ACT to be “hard”? Not really. It’s definitely easier and more straightforward than the SAT ( I only score about 2100ish on the practice tests)
Were you confident on all your answers? Not all, I had about 4-5 questions in English that I’m unsure about ( I’m an international student btw so I’m not really good at grammar ), 1-2 in Reading, and 1-2 in science.
How much prep work did you do? about 7 practice tests I believe, 5 of them are in the Preparing for ACT booklets, then one or two in a prep book.
How many time had you taken the ACT before you got the 35/36? First time as a junior.
Do you have any tips for me to get a score of 34+? I think you just need to get used to the time pressure, because that’s what most people find difficult to deal with. Do A LOT practice test and time yourself strictly. In reading I usually read the whole passage to get the general idea first then answer the questions. In science, don’t waste too much time reading the lengthy passages, pay more attention to the graphs. Analyze the x, y- axis of the graph first, then jump to the questions. That’s how I usually do, and that method helps me save a lot of time.

For those of you with 35/36: I got 34.25 but close enough

Did you consider the ACT to be “hard”? Yes, I think it is a challenging test to score above 33 on. The time limits are a bit ridiculous, but manageable.

Were you confident on all your answers? Of course most of them, but not really on the harder ones…

How much prep work did you do? Not too much, just a few practice tests on each Saturday the weeks before.

How many time had you taken the ACT before you got the 35/36? 2

Do you have any tips for me to get a score of 34+? RELAX. Panicking won’t help you out. Just open the test booklet and answer the questions.

D got a 36 as did one other student in her class of 650. Nationwide about 1 out of 1150 students score a 36
I didnt quite catch it…did you think it was a joke? Hmmm
I got a 36 my junior year
Did you consider the ACT to be “hard”? I thought the math and science were decently challenging, reading and english easy
Were you confident on all your answers? I thought I got perfects on reading and english, knew I missed a couple math, and was unsure about science
How much prep work did you do? Not much. I did a practice ACT the week before and got a 35
How many time had you taken the ACT before you got the 35/36? Never before in high school, took it in like 7th grade though.
Do you have any tips for me to get a score of 34+? Math is easily improvable, science just be careful all the answers are right in front of you. English is probably the easiest section objectively. Reading is the hardest to improve, but you can familiarize yourself with the types of questions.
