I want to get a MS degree in Engineering (ee, cs...)

Here are some "not-so-good" schools:
1. University of North Texas
2. University of Texas-Arlington
3. University of Texas-San Antonio
4. Texas Southern University ( I know it's a HBCU)
5. University of Houston

How would you rank these universities? according to location, reputation, job placement, living quality,..etc..

You're probably not going to receive a lot of solid information regarding those schools because I highly doubt that there are many people on CC that know enough about each school, let alone one or two of them, to give you an accurate, non-bias opinion. Sorry, but those schools just aren't too particularly popular here.

The only two schools you listed that I'd consider myself to be somewhat knowledgeable of would be UNT and UTA and I honestly don't really think that there's a discernable difference between the two in terms of reputation and job placement. The only differences would obviously be in terms of location (Denton vs. Arlington) and living quality.

While I've never been to UNT, I can say that I'm not particularly fond of UTA's campus and Arlington, in general. UTA seems to be located in one of the least desirable areas in Arlington and there really isn't much to do on campus, mostly because about 75% of the students commute. I've only been in two of the dorms there and they were pretty nice, but also pretty expensive, especially relative to the price of a comparable living arrangement off-campus.

On the plus side, UTA offers free tuition to students whose parents make less than 65k a year, which is pretty nice if you qualify.

Best, location-wise, is UTSA. UofH and TSU are next to each other in not the best part of Houston. I haven't seen UTA, but heard it isn't in a great location. I have nothing good to say about Denton. Quality-wise, I'd put UofH and UTSA at the top. TSU, sad to say, has had some serious administration problems.

U of H is actually a very good school. It has no charm and is a vast campus of commuter students. However, there are some excellent professors and the graduate English program is nationally known. UT- San Antonio is a school a lot of Texas non top 10% students go to for the CAP program to switch into UT- Austin. San Antonio is a funky, cool town. Those are the two best - reputation wise.

I don't know if you have visited UTSA recently but much of the construction that was going on last year has been completed and the new buildings look very nice. They seem to be trying to change the commuter school image although many students I know who go there live at home with their parents. There has been a lot of media attention lately on the candidates for the football coach position.

A few months ago I met a recent UT master's engineering graduate (a son of a parent at my D's high school) and he had a good job at USAA. He came to a school dinner and the parents were quite impressed with his poise and maturity. He was very complimentary of the UTSA engineering school.
