Anyone Interested in Being SAT Essay Buddies?

Hi everyone! I’ve registered for the March 2015 SAT and I need some help on my essays. I feel like I can write a good essay but every time I sit down to write one, I procrastinate quite a bit and I don’t get as much practice as I should. I also don’t have anyone to critique them either so this discourages me a bit.

I’m sure I’m not the only one with this problem. Would anyone who is also preparing for the SAT in March or May be interested to form a peer review group for the next few weeks? A group of 3-4 people would be great to work with. By working together, we would get critiqued on our essays, have a set deadline so there could be no procrastination, and get new ideas from our peers about how to tackle specific prompts, etc. It’s totally a win-win for everyone!

Everyone will have to grade without bias and according to CB standards (http://sat.collegeboard.org/scores/sat-essay-scoring-guide). Even harsher grading would be great; we all are looking to learn, right? Everyone should also have an understanding of how 8 and above essays are written and structured.

I think 3-4 essays per week would be the best way to learn and prepare. Everyone can take turns picking essay prompts from sources like http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/764514-sat-essay-prompt-archetypes.html, the Blue Book, or other credible sources.

Reply if you’re interested! Looking forward to working with you!

This sounds like a pretty good idea. I wouldn’t mind joining the group if you still have room.

Yeah sure! That would be great! If you know anyone else that would be interested in doing something like this, tell them to reply to this thread. We can get started this week and choose the essay prompts for this week by Monday.

I think the best way for us to share our essays will probably be by just posting them on here…that way people can look back and see all critiques and comments and stuff.

This sounds pretty interesting and helpful, is it okay to still join?

@alexisrios1 Definitely!

@milopenguin and alexisrios1 Pick a prompt that you feel comfortable with and share on here by Wednesday. The goal this week can be to write at least 2 essays answering 2 of the 3 prompts. Let’s share our essays by Sunday.

Ok so I think once we read our prompts we should not research any info on it after we’ve read it, and we must also time ourselves to accustom ourselves to the time limit

Yeah that’s a good idea to stimulate the test exactly.

Alright so you guys start it off and I’ll follow it from there

@milopenguin are you still interested in joining this group? Please reply with a prompt if you are.

Okay I’ve got one: Is it always best to determine one’s own views of right and wrong, or can we benefit from following the crowd?

Haven’t looked at yours very well, I’ll do so tmrw so I can create a legit setting

Prompt: with science eventually prove and make religion obsolete? Why or why not, explain your position and included references to support your argument.
Sorry if its too technical, AP brainwashed me

@summerpizza Sorry, I’ve been a bit busy lately. And yes, I’d still like to join.
Prompt: Are simple joys as valuable as complex experiences?

This is a really good idea. I had an SAT essay buddy who helped me improve my essay score from 9-12 from December-January. Good luck!

Hey! I am taking the SAT in March too and I was wondering if I could join this group?

@rover123 yeah sure but don’t post a prompt for this week, save it for next week starting on Monday. You are welcome to write the essays you like and check out our essays.

THAT SOUNDS AWESOME. I am an international sat taker from Egypt i took the sat 3 times and i got 1800. My writing score is 650 with an essay of 9 and i would like to join u if u still got an extra room for me.

Alright I will post on monday  thank you

@MOE1998 Alright sure. Post from Monday.

Everyone else who is interested—this forum is full

Do I post the prompt and the essay here?
