I graduated from Texas AM this past May with a decent but unspectacular gpa, but no significant internships or impressive work experience. I wanted to get into financial planning or equities research, but I couldnt get an interview with the major banks I applied to, and my chance to work for a boutique financial planning firm as a wealth management specialist ended up falling through for a variety of reasons.

Recently, I got an offer from a large insurance company to become an underwriter trainee, focusing on contract surety. I didnt know much of anything about surety going into the interview, and all I know now is what they've told me and what I've found online. It seems like a decent use of my finance degree, but also a somewhat mechanical and repetitive one. Commercial surety seems a little more interesting, but anyway, does anyone know if this type of work is generally enjoyable/tolerable? And also would a transition to equities research or corporate finance be feasible in the future, or is this sort of work experience not especially conducive to that?
