Anyone know the answer to this UC admissions question?

Hey! Do you know how long UC admissions people spend reading each application? Obviously it might be different since there’s a change in essays/personal insight questions, but does anyone know a general time range?

Which UC?

A current advertisement for UC Berkeley admissions readers states that the reader will earn $3.50 per application read. You can extrapolate from that how long UC Berkeley expects each application to be reviewed.

This article is a few years old, but it says about 8 minutes.

Minimum wage in California is $10/hr. In Oakland it is $12.55/hr. @siliconvalleymom where did you see the ad for admissions readers? I’m guessing that they are looking for people outside of Oakland. $-)

@lkg4answers, Here’s the link to the admissions reader job advertisement:

I just noticed that the hourly rate for training is $20 per hour, which would at $3.50 per application, suggest reading each application in about 10 minutes.

That’s really interesting. Thanks!

This is a good point to remember when listing your activities and writing essays. Try to put your most outstanding achievements where they can be easily spotted by someone scanning the application quickly.
