Cupcakes are way more awesome than sheet cake. Just sayin’
You guys are making me feel like a slacker parent. Here I was thinking that me shaving, combing my hair, and putting on a clean shirt was enough!
(I did order my D a hat and shirt for the day, though.)
We are doing flowers in the school colors. I think there will be other cupcakes there so no need to add to the feast.
We did the signing at home, and I bought the shirt AND paid for immediate shipping (if you only knew how much that hurt this very stingy parent! The bookstore wasn’t open when we visited campus so nothing purchased then). Our actual signing was at our kitchen table, picture sent to the coach for posting. No cake.
The cupcake extravaganza was for the school signing day in the spring. There were about 25 kids with tables, each decorated for the new school, with balloons and cake and treats. It was sort of a circus with everyone walking around and eating what they liked. LOTS of cakes. We were next to the girl going to Navy. Her table looked like a professional had decorated and catered it. I don’t remember having any cupcakes left over.
Congrats to all.
Inspired by this thread, I went and googled “Signing Day” photos…and some set ups in our neck of the woods seem VERY elaborate. Like stuffed animals, multiple banners (of HS and college), helmets on the table, all the jerseys on all the family members in attendance, etc. Like, now I’m thinking, I better wear a tie for this gig!
@doublebach, has your D3 student athlete been accepted through rolling admission given ED’s haven’t been issued yet?
Good luck everyone!!! So happy for you all. As a parent of an athlete still deciding (likely D3), I know it will be a welcome calming feeling when it’s over. Congrats again.
@Ohiodad51 I AM doing two… $-)
@Chembiodad she received a “conditional letter of acceptance”. The Admissions office also referred to it as a “likely letter”. Not an Ivy school nor NESCAC school but a well-respected engineering school, our sport is D3 but the college has some other sports in D1
@doublebach, congrats as I forget that the NCAA approved that D3 schools could issue a standard, non-binding athletics celebratory signing form, albeit not all conferences such as NESCAC are doing so.
I like it when college coaches send their recruits who aren’t getting an athletic scholarship a letter on school letterhead saying nothing more than some form of “congratulations and welcome to the team” so that the kid has something that looks official to sign.
Just back from daughter’s NLI signing ceremony. A surreal experience for a family that’s as non-sporty (except for 7D2, that is) as ours.
It’s all sort of a blur, TBH. More people present and more pictures taken than I thought there would be? I encourage any parents with kids in a position to take part in a signing event to take some time before or after the hoopla, to just pause and give each other a hug, savor the moment, and be thankful.
Really the nicest part of ours was the fellow athletes and friends that got out of class to see D sign. We celebrated at dinner as a family.
