I think my school is underrated. We do send A LOT of our graduates to ivy and other top schools, but according to newsweek and public opinion, our school is only in ~top 200 in US. While another school in my area is in top 50 in US, but has much lower AP scores, avg. SAT scores, and grade inflation. In my school its really hard to get an A (even in ridiculous classes like knitting) and we have grade deflation, as only top 10% of a class can get an A (ex. in a classroom of 40 people, only ~4 people get an A). Students, at least those who take AP and H classes, are very competitive. (Many don't share their notes or tell hw assignments to their friends b/c they want to get ahead in class) Many of our AP classes have ~100% pass rate and those who rank within top 10%, on average, take 6 APs by the end of their junior year. And I think it is just frustrating that some easier schools are thought to be more rigorous than mine. Does anyone else think their high school is underrated/overrated?

Underrated by a lot of people in the country and by a lot of those "Top High Schools" things, because we don't have a lot of APs. It's partially because there are so many great high schools in New York City, and since ours isn't specialized, a lot of people just don't know about it.

I have to admit that my high school, but I think locally and nationally we're way over-ranked. There's a huge disparity between teachers. While parts of our faculty are some of the most qualified, dedicated and enthusiastic educators I've ever met, other teachers make you feel that tenure and unionizing is a bad thing.

As for the student population, we have a reputation for being the "super nerds", but the amount of stupid, lazy and underachieving individuals is pretty much the same as in any other school.

Another thing are cases of huge grade inflation, in honors/AP classes where there's barely any work and big curves for every test.

I think we're underrated. We offer a HUGE variety of courses and our dropout rate is very low. We send a decent amount of kids to ivies and we have pretty low grade inflation, with no honors points for Honors classes and VERY strict rules on extra credit and things of that nature.
