Anyone use Microsoft OneNote?

Hey there,

I've heard a lot of people say that they generally like and use OneNote for school stuff, but does anyone have some practical experience? Like how you organize your notebooks and what subjects you use it for?

I set up a notebook for my classes next semester, and I'd like some advice on how to make the best of it all. It's a bit confusing right now, but it really does seem like a great program.

Thanks!

This is what I do personally. I have new notebooks for each class. Each tab is separated by the type of note (ex. lecture notes and homework are in separate tabs) and I make new pages each day so they’re separated by date.

I made a new notebook for each quarter, and then I made each of my classes a tab at the top (I think OneNote calls them “sections”) so it was easy to jump from class to class. Every time I took notes (usually during lectures, but sometimes during the reading or discussion section) I made it a new “page.” I usually label each page with something that makes it easy to sort through later (date and then the title of the lecture or something).

And after each quarter, I “close” the notebook so it doesn’t show up anymore, which was always very satisfying =D

Thanks for sharing your experiences, guys!
I appreciate it, and I like sorting through stuff by different note types.

Does anyone else have anything to add? In one of my classes for next semester, my professor wants us to keep a type of reading journal. We’re going to be doing a couple exercises a week that he wants us to turn in at the end of the semester. He recommended that we use Microsoft Word, but I was wondering if I could maybe take advantage of OneNote 's features. He just wants it to be organized and clear, but I find Word kind of boring.

I’d check out Metafilter if I were you. They post a lot about managing time and organizing school. If you just Google “Metafilter using OneNote” or “Metafilter OneNote time management,” I’m sure you could browse through the threads and find some anecdotes.
