I've been reading about the Bonner scholarship and it sounds really awesome. Does anyone have experience with it or know what kind of stats are needed to have a chance?
Also, how do you get nominated? Or can I just down load the application and send it in? Do you have to be already accepted to Davidson to apply for the scholarship? Thanks for any info!

Call or email the admissions office and ask for more information. taht is really the only way to know you are getting the accurate material--check the Web site first so you know what information is generally available and then ask your specific questions to supplement the info you already have acquired.

Thanks Mattmom
I did go all through the website and that's where I got the info - it's really hidden. A student there told me about the scholarship, so I looked but couldn't find it, then I googled it and came up with lots of info.
Is it really OK to ask the fin. aid office what kind of stats people have who get it? It seems like a little bit of a rude question...

I don't think it is rude; if you are polite and reasonabel and explain your interest in the school and the Bonner scholarship program it seems pretty reasonable--they probably won't tell you totally specific stats but they might give you some clues--they might say one peson has a 1500 on the 1600 scale and another has something totally different. But worth a try. I would check with admissions and ask them who the right person to talk to is, since I think admissions and financial aid are all one office.

I'm going to a college fair tomorrow where a rep from Davidson will be there - so I will see what I can find out. They are at the fair, but they aren't doing interviews, which I thought was a little strange. Thanks for your ideas

Hi...
If you have questions about Bonner, you can email me at chheath@davidson.edu...I am a freshman Bonner scholar and would be more than willing to talk to you! Good luck with applications!

Hey, I'm a Sophmore Bonner :) feel free to private message or email me as well.

Regarding your questions, firstly, you need to qualify for some form of financial aid to be a Bonner, if you obviously will than I think you can apply before you get accepted. Secondly, I think the accept rate from those accepted to Davidson is about 1/3 although in some years it approaches 1/2 and in others 1/4... Bonner is a community service based scholarship, so your record in community service matters more than any academic stats. In my opinion a very carefully written and well thought out scholarship application really helps your cause. I'd say everyone who has atleast done 40 hours of commmuity service in high school would have a chance for Bonner. I did a lot more than 40 ... I think many Bonners did between 100 and 200. Starting or leading a community service organization in high school seems to help, but its not essential. I applied for Bonner after I was accepted to Davidson, although you are certaintly right, Bonner is awesoome, and it brings a lot more meaning to my experience here. Oh and if you have questions that you want a college admin to answer I would contact Kevin Buechler with those questions, he is the director of the Bonner Scholars program.
