Anyone's kid do the USSYP program (preferably in Florida)??? Help would be appreciated!

Hi, I'm applying to the U.S. Senate Youth Program program- I'd prefer if only past participants/their parents comment. I've answered all the application questions honestly, but is there anything I can do to really make my application stand out among other Florida applicants? Also, I'd really like to get a feel for the whole application and selection process. If you are selected among the top 10 in the state, is the interview by Skype or in person? On the website it says it's via Skype, while the application says it is in Tallahassee. If I'm selected, will I be discussing my application or current events? And what can I do that'll really help my chances for selection?

Working in government is my desired career of choice; doing this would be a dream come true. Any help would be appreciated!

May I suggest that you contact either Sen. Nelson or Sen. Rubio’s office and speak with either their intern coordinator or their local, (Florida), education aide. Do these Senators have a local office near where you live? Showing the extra interest in direct contact may give you the edge. There are also internships available at the Florida offices for US Congressman and Senators. A contact and offer to volunteer locally where you will be known is also invaluable. Best of luck.

Submit explanation of interest, resume, writing sample, letters of recommendation and references online or fax to:

I appreciate that! Actually, I’ve already worked with Senator Nelson and currently intern for a Representative in the FL House. Sen. Nelson’s office told me that they are not allowed to really do anything from their position. I submitted a request to the D.C. office just in case. The representatives are also not allowed to do anything. I submitted my application just yesterday though.
