Anything besides STEM/Musical Theater at CMU?

What’s it like to major in something besides computer/engineering/architecture/musical theater at CMU? Does anyone do this (e.g. some other STEM universities have rather excellent “sleeper” humanities-type concentrations).

TIA

Personally I’m an ECE major, but everyone I’ve met here is driven in their own way. Honestly, basically all our programs here are pretty rigorous. Our business is pretty well-regarded and so are our fine arts, etc… What major are you looking into?

I graduated a while ago (Civil Engineering). One thing that I noticed was that even the non-STEM majors tend to lean towards practical, technical applications of the discipline. For example, I volunteered for a research experiment that the Psych department was doing on methods of teaching computer programming methods to non-CS majors. The department was also doing research on Artificial Intelligence with the Robotics department. This may not be unique to CMU, but at the time I thought it was.

CMU is one of a relatively small number of universities that offers Industrial Design. I know that in the past they have had tech companies come in to sponsor different product design projects.

I’m sure there are plenty of other examples, but those are two that I immediately thought of.

Here are the enrollment numbers for the current year by college:

We know someone in Tepper and she loves it. Our D17 is looking at Tpr or DC but is also beginning to explore IS as well. She’s not a STEM kid but she LOVES CMU.
