Anything similar in a warmer climate?

I was also going to suggest Occidental and the Claremont colleges. Beautiful campuses and warm weather. Also might look at Chapman- right next to UCI in Orange County (ca).

Oberlin has outstanding science programs and sends lots of students to PhD programs. Another school that provides outstanding undergraduate science education is William & Mary. It is not exactly similar to Oberlin, but it is warmer and is a fairly diverse, tolerant community. Not as diverse as Oberlin, and definitely lacking the cultural edginess of Oberlin.

I would encourage her to explore two options in the San Francisco Bay Area, where nerdy and unconventional passes for normal and ordinary in most cases. While neither of these are Oberlin or Wesleyan type schools, she might find interest in them because of what the surrounding area and region offer culturally and academically:

Mills College–excellent women’s college in Oakland hills
University of San Francisco–Jesuit-run school, in the middle of San Francisco, many non-Catholics attend there
