My D attending Junior Day at Davidson in the Spring and she really liked the college. She has decided that it is too close to home and would prefer to attend somewhere farther away. She's looking for a small LAC, strong academics, good science programs, student diversity without a Greek/party scene or big athletic programs. Does anyone have any recommendations? She has visited Haverford but preferred Bryn Mawr of the schools in the Quaker consortium. We don't want to leave any stone unturned..any ideas?

Have you considered Middlebury? My son loves it there. It is larger than Davidson and in a much different part of the country (Vermont). Very good for the sciences, beautiful campus, close-knit community of students, lovely downtown withing walking distance.

That is a certainly a good school, I’ll look into it. I bet the leaves in autumn are amazing. Being a Carolina girl, she is a little concerned about going somewhere too cold. One that’s on her radar as a reach is Vassar.

Have you considered the Claremont colleges? Better winter weather and meet the small LAC, strong academics, diversity criteria. Not sure about science programs but assume at least one school in the consortium would have some depth there.

Thanks Yaupon, We’ll check it out.

Rice would be another option to consider. I was going to suggest Carleton, but she would need a large parka.

We really liked Trinity in CT. Great campus and it is not as isolated or cold as the Middleburys

Is she okay with the Midwest? If so, look at Oberlin, Kenyon and Grinnell. Also, in VA, you can check out William & Mary and Washington & Lee.
