Why does Cliffs seem to be so highly regarded for Bio on CC?

I've typically found PR to be solid for most subjects...any insights?

I love PR for most subjects.

That said, Cliffs for Bio is definitely better. I went through nearly everything in PR, but felt like it didn’t have the level of detail necessary. So I turned to Cliffs a week or two ago, which has just the right amount of review, pretty awesome practice questions, and sample essays. So it’s better than PR I’m feeling much better prepared already.

I’ve been using the Cliff’s book as a supplement to my coursework all year, and am now reviewing one unit per day, and I must say, it is wonderful for refreshing my mind of all the material. It’s very simple to understand, detailed enough, and provides sufficient review.

Cliffs is way more detailed in some topics (especially plants) than PR. I am getting fed up with the detail in Cliffs so I am reading PR more lately. But Cliffs is a much better book, no doubt.

Cliffs is the best prep book for AP Bio. It’s very concise and it covers everything you need to know for the exam really well. While it is a little detailed here and there, it’s still a great book overall. The practice questions are also similar to the ones I’ve seen in old AP Bio exams. I went through PR the other day, and it seems kind of “watered down” and more general in some topics where it should be more detailed.

How about Fast Track to a Five?

I use PR for all my exams. Works great. For bio, I thought the PR was better since the AP exam isnt that that detailed and the PR covers everything pretty well. Of course, if you want the more detailed guides, go ahead. It never hurts

I self-studied last year and got a 5. CliffsNotes was practically my bible last year. Get the one with the CD; it has extra practice exams. Don’t forget to understand the labs; if you Google “AP Bio labs” look at the phschool website, great review.
