AP Bio..struggling..

Hey guys! I'm taking a heavy courseload this year and I am struggling with APBio. For those who have taken it (or didn't find it challenging) or are taking it, any helpful tips or points that might help me?

I love science, but I just cant seem to grasp this class. I don't know what it is, I havn't had this much trouble in a class before, though this could be due to harder classes this year.

Advice or tips?

Thanks!

Don’t sweat it right now. Molecular Bio is A LOT harder than “ecological” (plant and human anatomy, for the most part). I had a mid-B throughout first semester and managed to crank a solid A by the end of the year (and we’re on a 7-point scale).

if it makes you feel any better, i’m struggling right now too. Stupid TATA box and transcription factors…

You should try my strategy: Sleep in class and read the book at home. It’s gotten me A’s so far

If you guys do a test after every 5 chapters: study every night for 15 - 30 minutes, I guarantee you’ll have an A doing that.

Try Khan Academy. It’s a website that saved my life in AP Calc, and it has topics ranging from math to science to the humanities. Maybe it’ll help you?

Thanks for all the replies. I have a B in the class now and with finals near, I need to get it up.

read, read, read the textbook.
and go through every single system to conceptualize it, understanding, not memorization, is key.

Skim chapter

Take extensive notes (they help you digest the information)

Read over the chapter fully

Ace your test/quiz

I have AP bio and this method has gotten me a 96%…so, try it.

Does your class use the Campbell book for AP biology? There are online activities and practice tests which can be helpful (if your school gives you a password to get on the online book site). There is a website [Biology Outlines | Course-Notes.Org](Outlines | CourseNotes) which has notes for each chapter of the Campbell book which you can use to study/highlight. Khan Academy has some great videos which explain various topics. There are also other websites which have review material or quizzes. Ask your teacher for advice.
Good luck!

I think the biggest strategy that helped me last year for molecular was to be able to explain out loud (you could even pretend to teach your dog or something) how each pathway or system worked, from start to finish with no notes. Then you know you understand the whole thing and how it progresses instead of just visually seeing it on the page.

yellowsnowman, i use that method and i’m doing pretty bad too! i also have a B but i love sciences. i even did well in regents biology freshman year. i simply cannot grasp AP biology :/

Convince your teacher to give extra credit for every test like my class did. That’s how I’m getting an A.

^ Hahaha great idea  My teacher only gives two extra credit essays a quarter, however. :/

Well we have a project (39 points) and a bigger test coming up (maybe around 80?) so if I do well on those I should be okay, and then ace my final ( ha that shouldn’t be too hard…not…) I will check out the websites listed. We do not use a campbell book but I can look into that. Thanks again.

AP bio is for n00bz
