I recently sjgned up to take AP Calculus AB next year and thought nothing of it. I'm not great ay math, but I always manage an A. Then I come on this site and everyone is saying how they are a great studeny, but they ended uo with C's and D's, AND ITS GOT ME FREAKED OUT

Should I drop it and take simething else?

Test it out first - the difficulty really depends on the school, and some find it even easier than other math classes.

its very hard at my school, but our teacher is not very good. she's a nice person, but SHE CANNOT TEACH AT ALL!!! lol so it really depends, I did really well in pre-calc, but when I got to AP calc AB I was just like woah! I started the year with a D lol then got a B after making up quizzes and such. everyone was in the same boat as me

I had a C+ in precalc, but an A in AB calc. It's really not that difficult, as long as you keep up. Everything builds on everything in calc, and so if you don't understand limits, you most likely won't get the full picture of derivatives. And if you don't understand derivatives, you won't get integrals. And if you don't get integrals, you won't get areas/volumes/series.
So just keep up, and you should be fine =)

Also, don't necessarily think of calculus as a "math" where its just add/subtract/multiply/divide, move around and change numbers to solve something. Calculus is an art, and you have to be able to see things and realize how to manipulate the equation/problem and turn it in to an answer. But once you understand calculus and see it as a whole picture instead of little individual parts, you'll realize it really is a math that is a beautiful art.

Ask other people what they thought of their teachers, and take a different math or higher math depending on that.

I had an A in pre-calc but only managed to get a C+ in calc AB first semester.

But from what I hear the actual AP Calculus AB exam is not too hard.

I had a B in pre-calc, and I got an A in bc calc.

Hey Mike: chillll.
I know how you feel-- I myself am not too hot at math, and ever since I was in algebra I in 8th grade, I had dreaded the day that I would take calculus. I've always struggled in my math classes, but I always managed to learn all the material in the end thanks to very persistent (and very patient) teachers, and now, I'm in calculus.

I swear. It's not so bad. I'm actually passing the class (I jump for joy for B's!). Although I won't always know what's going on in class, I am definitely not one of the kids in class who are *always * lost.

Bottom line: If you can pass pre-calc with an A (assuming your pre-calc class itself is decent), you'll probably do fine in calc with some self-perseverance and an awesome teacher. But for now, just concentrate on pre-calc, righty-o? That stuff saves. :)

And btw-- don't trust everything you read on here (not saying that this post itself is false...!). It's the freaking internet, maaan.

Calc AB is probably the easiest math class I've taken in a long time (except for Stat). I don't think anybody got below a B in my class.

depends on the teacher on whether the class itself is hard.
get a prep book like princeton review or barrons, which was what i did, and it helped a lot
