Hi, like many of you here, I took the Calc BC test.

And also, like many of you, I got a sub-score for the Calc AB test.

I see on the back it says AP scholar with Distinction granted for students who get grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams; and if I count the sub score, I will be qualified for this.

So... am I?

I believe it doesn’t work that way. Only if you took the AB test does it count towards awards; otherwise, the subscore is just an indicator for colleges to tell if you need credit for the AB portion but had issues with the BC portion. At least, that’s what my Google search tells me. I never checked the official CB policy.

“The Calculus AB subscore, Music Theory aural subscore and Music Theory nonaural subscore grades are not used in the award calculations.”
[AP: Scholar Awards](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>Qualifying for an AP Scholar Award – AP Students | College Board)

sigh wouldve got me national award =/

However, at some universities (like UW) you can pass out of lower level calc classes w/ a 5 subscore, so it’s not all bad!!!

some schools will give you credit (or will be used for placement) for the AB subscore

na it doesn’t count as a separate test, i had the same situation,

4 exams with 4 or better (including calc ab which i hoped would make it 5 exams)
but i got ap scholar with honor

this was last year

Almost all (maybe even all) schools treat the AB subscore as the AB test, so you could still get credit if you didn’t do as well on the BC portion.

Would have gotten the national award as well if that 5 on the AB subscore counted… so close. Six 5’s a 4 and a 2… stupid chemistry.

It is worth noting that a handful of (particularly state) schools do not - I know for instance that no Ohio universities accept the subscore for credit due to policies of the state board of education.
