AP Calculus or Highschool Calculus

Math has always been my favorite subject, I generally am good at it as well.
I’ve always had an A+ in math and I don’t really struggle a lot with it.
I’m a rising senior and I have the option of studying normal high school calculus with the rest of my classmates or take AP Calculus AB by my self with just a teacher supervising my tests. (No one else is taking AP calc as they are all too afraid to take it)
I’m not sure what I should do?

That sucks. Take the AB. Can you do it online or in a CC though? I had the same exact situation happen to me some 30+ years ago when I was in HS. I took the AB route, but it was not an ideal situation. I kinda went at my own pace and wound up slacking off a lot.

Surprising that your “regular” high school calculus is not just AP calculus AB, since AB is slower paced than calculus in college.

I think AP Calculus AB would be a good choice, even though it sounds like kind of an awkward situation. Colleges often compare applicants from a particular high school to each other because they had the same opportunities. You would make yourself stand out. If you aren’t sure, get the Princeton Review study book to see the type of material you can expect to cover. You can use it to get a head start too.

Besides, it would be great if you could do well enough on the AP test to get credit for the first Calculus class in college, providing you attend a college that gives AP credit. Why take beginning Calculus twice when you can get it done in high school and move on from there when you start college.

Go with calc AB since you like math. Perhaps start with your classmates with a complement from your teacher and then once you’ve got the basics down, go full 'independent study".
