AP Capstone Help (What To Do When Your School Is One Of The Capstone School But Refuses?)

I’m an Upcoming Junior for the 2018-2019 School Year In Florida and I Really want to take AP Capstone but my school is listed as one of the participating schools but don’t follow through on their word to make it happen.

Instead of AP Capstone, my guidance counselor offer Debate ( which even though a good class & after-school activity) its not exactly what I wanted to help prepare me for my career I had in mind.

Since My Freshman Year of High School, I’ve been wanting to help change the world via Health Adminstration/Managements with a possible minor in either Behavioral Health (Because of AP Psych) or Public Health and since 10th grade year I’ve been taking classes that will benefit me for my future career (9th grade year hated it because my previous high school put too much STEM Classes that make me have a disliking towards science classes but still want to be in medicine to help people)

The Following Is My 10th Grade Year Inculding Online Classes As Well:
World History Honors
Spanish 2
AICE General Papers ( A Writing Class)
Algerba 2 Reg. ( Bad At Math But Need It For My Career)
Life Management/Driver’s Education
AP Psychology (Best Class I’ve Taken & After WH, GP & S2, Highest Grade Ever achieved with a Mid-High B)
Anatomy & Physiology ( My Old School Did Things Different then My Current School, So I Have To Be in A Freshman Class Which I Hated Because I didn’t understand the class cause of diagrams and even through I went to Tutoring, I still didn’t learn anything beneficial to Health Adminstration)
Parenting Skills (FLVS Elective)
Career Research ( FLVS Elective)
Critical Thinking (FLVS Elective)
Chemistry 1 Honors ( Had to Retake That Class From 9th Grade, Took me almost a year to finish that course)

As You Guys may have noticed, I only take classes that interest me (besides A&P) or for my career and Capstone will be one of those classes that through tedious, it will be very helpful both for myself and the career I desire to order to help make a difference in my community as well as my home in Florida.

Anyways, My Question is there a way that I be able to take AP Capstone online or worse case scenario, besides debate classes that are similar to Capstone besides AP English Language/Literature since I have to take AICE Versions of the two next year.( Current School Likes AICE More Than AP Classes due to Bright Futures)

Wellll I think you’re in luck. In order to get a Capstone diploma, you need to get a 3 on the AP Seminar and AP Research exam. However, since you’re taking argumentation classes, you will do well on the Seminar exam. Luckily for you, you really don’t need to take AP Seminar and Research, just the exams. AP Research is a college style research paper which you will submit at the end of the year, then defend.

If you don’t mind me asking, what exactly is AP Capstone? Are you talking about AP Seminar, or AP Research? Either way, you still have two years to fit Capstone in, anyway.

I do not think that you will be able to take AP Capstone online. There’s a section of the AP exam that requires a group paper and presentation, so it would difficult to coordinate that among students that are not constantly seeing each other in person.

Sounds like a group of you would work on a project, and even if your high school offered the capstone experience you don’t know if the topic you would be assigned would be related to your specific interests.

I hope I can remember but my son took it 2 years ago. He is in engineering at Michigan and writing was his weakness. He wanted to improve and learn research styles. The seminar was coming up with a topic and doing some papers but improving your writing skills and research skills. Everyone besides him had AP Lang. He took it as a senior and really had to catch catchup.I think he had to do a 3,000 word paper. In the research the following year you had to do alot of research for a 5,000 word paper. He was filmed when presenting his papers and this was sent in to be evaluated by the graders. He really became a really good writer. Found first year writing in college a breeze and used the research portion this summer in an intensive he took on research and business and said he already learned all it in AP research. The combo gave him alot of confidence going into college.

I was really upset about not being able to take AP Seminar (Or Getting The Capstone Because Of My School) but with the replies on this thread about I cant sadly take it online made me realize that I can take and stock up more on English classes ( At My School for Aice) and doing something that will be sort of similar like English Composition.
