ap chem help por favor?

a question I do have. don't worry, I'm just lookiing for a short explanation, no math, just processes.

if given x amount of test tubes, and I have to order them by their basic/acidity level, and the only liquid i have at hand is phenolpthalein, what do I do?

2nd question coming later this week!

thanks a bundle :p

Well isn't that an indicator (sp?) so if you put it in and it turned red it'd be an acid, if blue a base, if green neutral. That's how it should work.

Well phenolpthalein is an indicator, and you would have to titrate the solutions. It only works in certain pH's where it will change that solution to I believe a pinkish-purple color.

With a slightly basic solution...around maybe a pH of 8-12 lets say, it will appear pink in the solution. At solutions more alkaline than that, it will looks more purple. In acidic solutions, there will be no color at all.

Yeah...then you mix the various solutions together two at a time and titrate like I told you online. :)
