the SAT II: yes, they have both simplified and traditional.

My chinese teacher was one of the writers/contributers for the exam and she says it's a lot harder than the SAT II. She says that anyone in our class (post-chinese school graduation) should be able to get a 800 on the SAT II but would struggle on the exam. So...

I doubt you will get away with just speaking fluently and knowing han yu pin yin on the test.

The class should prepare you, though.

You're lucky you have the opportunity to take the test! I live in a really predominantly white area (not to mention the most conservative city in the United States); no schools around here offer the AP course or even administer the test.

I checked AP central... unfortunately they still don't have an "example textbook list"... 09xoxo, what textbook is your teacher using?

I'm planning to take it next year... hopefully by then I can get a look at how hard it really is...

arghh I hate using MS IME... I use QuanPin, which is soooo much better

We're not using a textbook, our teacher(chinese school) brings in like newspaper clippings and photocopies from chinese textbooks from china and whatnot. Sorry. Yeah I'm considering taking it next year if people say that it's not too hard.

I was a test dummy for the AP CHinese test. It was administrated in November of December. It was slightly harder than the hardest questions on the Chinese SAT II questions.

haha just pointing this out-
November of December?

edit-OR (10 char)

wow that's crazy... a test dummy? How in the world did you get such a nice opportunity?

Han yu pin yin is the actual pronunciation that chinese people use. There are four different “sounds”, yi sheng, er sheng, san sheng, and si sheng, represented by markings that take too much effort to type on an english forum. Pin yin is not for non-chinese speakers, but rather part of the Chinese language, so no; it’s not romanticism and duchois is right.

^Congratulations; you necro’d a 4-year-old thread.

^lawl. and his post was already discussed earlier in this thread
