AP Chinese Preprepation

More than 90% of the students last year got 5s, don't worry about it.

you should get a 5 if you are a native speaker.

I'm a native speaker, but I completely suck at reading and writing, can I get a 5 next year?

get a chinese newspaper and try reading some of their ads

can you understand them?

if so, you should be fine on the reading part

for the writing section,
you need to know how to type a coherently in chinese.
you can practice by typing in chinese in emails to chinese relatives

What books did people use to prepare/what textbooks do you use? I'm a native speaker who's been slacking off on learning Chinese for the past few years so I kind of need to brush up on my skillz.

bump, this should be interesting. i studied elementary chinese for 6 years in singapore (although i wasn't a very good student). but haven't wrote anything in the past 5 years. will the test be manageable?

on amazon.com there's "Barron's AP Chinese Language and Culture: with Audio CDs (Barron's: the Leader in Test Preparation) (Paperback)" for $12

says it hasn't been released but there you have it

Barron's has it, go to Amazon to buy the book.

lol, wow, theyre actually gonna make a book for it? the test itself is just so amusing that if youre a native speaker and you dont get a 5 you might as well question whether or not youre actually a native speaker, no offense to anyone though.

uh, if youre moderately good at chinese, the only things to consider during the test is that for the listening questions, since the answer choices are read in order from A-E (or A-D, which ever it was), and since some of the answer choices are sooo wrong that theyre kinda funny, try not to forget what the original question is, which i sorta did last year lol.

and also, for the speaking sections, just talk normally and dont be off topic or anything, and thats it. easy 5.

Is there any correlation between SAT chinese scores and AP Scores? I'm a "native" speaker, and only got a 750 on SAT chinese lol, What should I be able to get on AP chinese?

What is the curve to get a 5, (i.e. how many questions can you get wrong, or what % can you get wrong)?

For me, I'm just worried about the culture questions since I'd have no idea how to say things in Mandarin. (I speak Cantonese btw).

Okay. I took the AP Chinese test last year and I got a 5 with little to no preparation. I'll be glad to answer some of you guys' questions.

The Culture questions were slightly bizzare and I'm not sure if I answered them correctly or not, but there were questions about the educational pressures and the main artifacts/attractions at some of the major Chinese cities such as Beijing, etc.

I took it 2 years in a row and got 5's both years, WITHOUT STUDYING. it's that easy, just practice speaking chinese at home with your parents. 95% get a 5

^ Are you saying that you took the Chinese AP tests two times?

just to prove a point, man

lol- so when it asks you to type up the letters or whatever for the writing section in pinyin, does it do it the microsoft way? IE, if i type like 3 different words in will it string them together for me and give me the correct three han yu?
sorry if this doesnt make sense. basically what im trying to say is, do i have to type the words one by one in pinyin, or if i type “you yong” (swimming) will it give me both the right characters???
i should NOT have procrastinated studying for this test, altho i am a “native” speaker and am slightly cheered by the reassurances on this trhead :P

Uh…so, question here, guys. How does one go about preparing for the AP Chinese Language and Culture exam? ._. I have Calculus AB and Chinese tomorrow, but since I’m pretty much good to go for calc, I need a way to study for Chinese.

Not a native speaker - I speak Cantonese at home, which is different enough from Mandarin that it’s as if I’m not Chinese.

@ fuzzyfirebunny

I don’t know, did anyone here have practice with the Collegeboard system? My school had several trial CDs that invited us to try typing in Chinese using their program, but I was too busy to go <.< I know Windows Vista was very good at stringing words together, but XP kinda sucks in that regard.

gahh I took the AP Chinese exam today, and the listening part was so fast <_< I missed 3 lol but I think that’s okay to get a 5…right? LOL

I’m a ‘native’ speaker by the way lol so if I end up getting a 4…well…shame on me LOL

How many lines of word do you guys wrote for each writing question?

seriously what the hell…

that 2 minute speech thing was so freaken bad. i probably failed because i messed that up so badly

also my writing was so short… the 4 pictures one i spent like 10 minutes trying to start my story or w/e SO BAD like 200 words for each writing assignment

SDFIOSJDFIOJSDIF i better not get a 4 or i’m gunna be angry -__-
