I’m currently a sophomore in high school, I only take AP Psych this year and I regret not taking AP World. Here’s my schedule for junior year:
AP Lang
AP USH
AP Chem
AP Statistics
Pre AP Trig/Pre calc
And possible human anatomy
My plan for senior year schedule is:
AP Lit (if I have a 4 or 5 on the AP lang test then I will skip the AP lit test, but still take the class to improve skills)
AP Bio
AP Calc BC
AP Physics 1
And possible AP Comparative Gov
Would you guys recommend taking 5 AP classes in senior year because I’ve heard that senior year will be pretty busy for college app, essays and getting all the paperwork done?
And do you have any suggestions or comments on my course selection?
Im currently a junior in highschool so take what i say with that in mind: If you have the work ethic for it, i think you’ll do fine with five APs Senior year.
From what i understand, most of the applications and essay process takes place over the summer following Junior year as most applications are sent out by November.
Depending on what schools you are planning on applying to this could vary. Not to mention EA or ED applications which are usually due a few months before RD apps.
Now, five APs is certainly a lot of work (especially if you’re planning on taking all of the exams which id assume you are) so if you think you can manage the work in addition to the first few months of the school year being filled with college stuff, go for it! It certainly won’t hurt to have taken a bunch of APs with your college apps.
For now, worry about Junior year. It’s SAT year, and preparing for that is much more important than worrying about your class schedule two school years from now. Take it step by step and I’m sure you’ll do great!
I would counsel against too many APs Senior year, and this is why.
In the fall, you are in college application season. You may be taking the SAT again. You may want to visit some more colleges. You have to write college- specific essays (hopefully you already wrote your common app essay over the summer.). You have to fill out your Common App and get recommendations.
Also you may be in marching band or Sports or be a leader of a club. College Apps is like another timesucking EC on top of that.
Then in the spring, you may have senioritis. You are been accepted to college and are looking toward the finish line. You have to study for the AP tests…it will be difficult to study for too many at once.
You could consider taking AP Physics junior year and then AP Chem or AP Bio senior year.
But if you continue with what you have you will be prepared for Bio, Chem, Physics, Calc, English that is needed for the premed courses in college.
Also maybe volunteer at a hospital to make sure you like the medical environment and also if you want to apply for a BS/MD program.
