I Hey, So i am currently taking AP COMP SCI, and I am struggling. I am thinking to switch to something non AP. If i get a C in AP COMP SCI, will it count as much as an A in a regular course? And I am on the college board website, and they say that AP COMP SCI is helpful for AE. Does it really help? I am really considering dropping it because I AM LITERALLY STRUGGLING. Thanks.

Computer science can be helpful in pretty much every field of engineering. That said, no, you don’t have to be some prolific C++ coder to be a successful aerospace engineer.

Also, a friendly suggestions for the sake of clarity, I’d suggest that you be careful using abbreviations like “AE” in the future. Using it without previously saying “aerospace engineering” can lead to abiguity (e.g. architectural engineering, agricultural engineering). It would be more clear if the first time you use it you use the full name.

Getting a C in an AP course isn’t worth it if you aren’t getting much out of it, especially considering the competitive nature of college admissions these days. However, yes, learning how to program effectively will vastly improve your hireability. Last year my resume got round filed everywhere I applied to. This year only thing that has really changed was adding a new programming language and a project involving its use. This week I have an interview with JPL. There are numerous resources to learn the basics. The real key I believe is to apply it to something not just homework assignments/exercises.
