<p>I so need this, as I wasn't able to take an AP test in a foreign language because of my language selection.</p>

<p>I have never taken modern Greek, but I have heard the differences are huge. Of course, the vocabulary is quite different, as one learns words relevant for reading ancient texts (ex. dikaiosyne=justice, arete= virtue). And I have heard that Homeric Greek compared with modern is analygous to Middle English to English spoken today. Having taken Attic Greek (philosophical Greek) and Homeric Greek (the Greek in which Homer wrote), I know there are quite a few differences in those two alone, such as word endings (verbs) and lack of an augement in the imperfect and aorist, confusing things quite a bit! So the differences between ancient and modern dialects are large.</p>

<p>But I don't know anything about modern Greek, other than a girl who spoke Modern Greek who took an ancient Greek class with me was having just as much trouble as I was with learning it.</p>
