Hello I’m an international student currently studying in India in my sophomore year. AP courses aren’t available in my state leaving me with no options but to self study for the exam. I’m interested in pursuing computer science if so what ap exams should I take and how should I go about studying them.
Don’t.
You aren’t expected to have APs, and self-studying them won’t help in your admissions.
I’m actually going to disagree with @collegemom3717. I think that if you have a genuine interest in subjects like Computer Science and it’s financially doable to pay for the tests, go ahead and explore your passion. Of course, if you’re self-studying classes you’re not interested in for the sake of college apps, I would advise you to stop, it really sucks and you won’t get anything out of it.
That being said, I would suggest the AP Computer Sciences and maybe AP Statistics or AP Calculus if you have a teacher that could help you. I’ve heard of kids who take a general high school class like Biology then just study a bit and take the AP test if their school doesn’t offer the class. Your mileage will vary but maybe this’ll work for you if you MUST take the AP test.
It depends what is available to the OP- they may have perfectly good options for a comp sci course or exploring comp sci otherwise- just not one with an AP label. US colleges don’t expect international students to have APs,
You can definitely self-study for these APs which will grant you college credit if you plan on attending a school at the US. For CS, any of the STEM APs like AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, or AP Computer Science A are good preparation. You can self-study by purchasing a test-prep book or using online resources.
I agree with CSA and Calc. Not Statistics.
