AP Credit after years.

I am currently taking an AP class right now as a freshman, but I am wondering how do I still qualify for credit, if I earn any, even after three years of high school. If I still do possess the credit, how do I apply it to colleges when I apply or get admitted?

They’ll see your transcript and that you’ve taken the AP class. You have to send the scores to them around applying time when you’re a senior, so make sure you have a reliable source to keep track of them!

If you want credit for AP exam scores from the college where you matriculate, you’ll have your scores sent from the College Board website the same way you would if you’d taken the tests later in high school. You don’t get college credit for AP exam scores unless/until your college gives it to you. When you first apply to colleges, you should just self-report your scores on the Common App.

@halcyonheather‌ @tacoperson123‌ So the CollegeBoard keeps the scores until then? Also, do you have to pay to send it to colleges after taking the test?

yes to first question; no to the second

They should, yes.

Yes, almost always. There’s one exception, which is that you have the option of sending your scores to one college for free every year when you take AP exams, but you have to pick the college when you take the exams and I don’t think you’d know what school to pick as a freshman. It’s usually a good idea to wait until you know where you’re going so you only have to have a score report sent to one college, not multiple colleges. I had my AP exam scores sent in the second semester of my senior year to the college where I submitted my enrollment deposit. Again, when you’re first applying to colleges you can just self-report your scores on the Common App. Here is the College Board’s AP FAQ page.

“years”? I thought you meant like 10 years!

Your HS career is your HS career. Some colleges don’t count freshman year grades, but others do. Those grades are almost as old as a freshman AP exam.

It’s also important to note that not all colleges give AP credit in every subject.
