@kingkumar, sounds like you’re in similar situation as my S, but in different language. He’s in LSA and he placed out of 4 semesters of LSA language requirement for Latin (thru UM placement test, not thru AP). However, he was told that he would NOT get any credits for his Latin unless he takes the 5th semester Latin (301, I think) at UM; if he chooses to continue, LSA will give him 8 “retro” credits (i.e., HALF of the full 16 credits from the 4 semesters he tested out.)

More about retro credits from LSA:
http://www.lsa.umich.edu/students/academicsrequirements/academicpolicies/testcreditapclepibaleveletc/retroactivelanguagecredits
(but I don’t see Spanish listed there)

Interesting. Does anyone know if Spanish would get these retro credits?

For Calc BC in LSA, they also withhold half of the credits until you take the next leveland scored a C or above. It is not the case in CoE though. There is no foreign language requirement, so the placement credit policy would b b different too.

Unfortunately, S didn’t get the full Calc BC credits from LSA even though he had completed his UM Math 295-396 sequence (plus a lot more) taken previously, as indicated in:
<a href=“AP, IB Credit | University of Michigan Office of Undergraduate Admissions”>http://www.admissions.umich.edu/ap-guidelines

He was only granted 4 credits for his BC. Period.

I guess the retro credits will be given only if one takes the next-level classes after matriculation, but not before.
