feeling like I got screwed over with AP Credit

So I just finished my freshman year... and I'm already at junior standing (62 credits). And that means my tuition rate goes up and I'll be paying the upper-class rate for 3 years, instead of just two. Anyone else in this situation? Add on top of this, the $3000 increase in tuition this year.

It doesn’t matter. You’d be paying this amount sooner or later.

Ugh, yeah predator, the same thing happened to me. That’s why the smart thing to do is withhold your ap scores until you’re a junior (or get junior standing anyways), wait until the second semester of senior year to declare your LSA compsci major, etc. Unfortunately, I was not smart enough to think of this last year. Oops. Maybe I can tell my advisor I don’t want to take AP credit for anything, and then resubmit the scores my senior year.

However, I probably use a lot more of the U’s resources than the average student, so I don’t feel like I’m getting burned.

^What’s the point of doing that? If you don’t place out of those intro level courses, you’re not eligible to take upper level courses anyway.

AP credits let me graduate in 3 years instead of 4, so I’m not complaining.

Yeah, you can. I won’t get into specifics because it’s not on topic with the thread.

I have a few questions. I got a 5 on AP US History so I think I will get the 4 credits for that I could also get a bunch next year. So if I want to go to Ross, will AP Bio and AP Histories place me out of classes or will I need to take others? I’m taking BC next year too. If I get a 4 or 5 on that would I not have to take Math since Ross only requires Calc115? I don’t want to take Calc3. Or should I take Calc115 so I can get an easy A?

So apparently you are allowed to drop credits? I might just do that to avoid junior standing for at least one more semester…

I don’t know if you can but i’ll still try.

No a friend of mine told me you can…

Do you know exactly how (pm or just post)? I’m going to do that…

My advisor just informed me of this as well. I’m an incoming freshman who will be paying upper-level cost due to credits. You may drop AP credits but there is no way to get them back. Just speak to your advisor, that’s what I did.

oh dear. It looks like I will have the same problem if I go to UM - I’m a rising senior and already have (according to the website) 32 credits from APs. If senior year goes as planned I might enter UM with 58 credits. How does the withholding scores thing work? What are the advantages/disadvantages? Any suggestions on how to make the most of such a situation?

You can send them the scores… then tell them to release credits for whatever exams you don’t want credit for.

Can we drop the credits from the language placement tests?

Those 8 gen. electives credits are beyond useless…

Yes you can drop any of those. I emailed my advisor and I had to contact another lady… I sent this lady an email telling her I wanted to drop my Stats 101 X general credit (from a 5 on AP Stats) and a HIST 101 X general credit (from a 4 on APUSH)
