Son will have AP calculus BC, statistics, comp science, physics CM done this year. He will likely receive college credits for them. Should he retake these classes in college given they are required? I understand for non core classes he can simply take the credits and move on.
In most cases, no need to retake them if he scored well enough on the AP test and has sufficient understanding of the material.
For AP Calc BC, I would look at the score breakdown. If he passed mostly because he’s strong in the Calc I portion, then retake Calc II. If he gets a 5 and was strong in both Calc I and II sections, then move on. Calc II doesn’t really build on Calc I. Calc III more builds on Calc I.
Assuming that the college allows him to skip those courses with AP credit (common for calculus, rare for statistics if required for an engineering major), he can try the college’s old final exams of the courses that he is allowed to skip to check his knowledge from the college’s point of view. The result may be (a) skip, (b) skip, but review a few things before going on to the next course, or (c) retake.
