It's time to register for AP exams, and I'm wondering if D. really needs to take all of them. She is taking five AP classes this year and can take six exams:

Calc BC,
English Literature
Spanish Literature
Econ Micro
Econ Macro
Psychology

Will she get credits for all of them in School of Journalism? She already took Statistics and Spanish Language last year.
If some of them are useless for her major, she can concentrate on the others.
By the way, does everybody pay $110 per exam ( $140 for Chinese) or its different in your HS?

If you go on the Mizzou website and search for advanced placement credit (or something like that), you'll find a chart that gives their policies. I don't think any of these exams would be a waste of time. My son's HS offered a limited number of AP classes, and I am pretty sure they were required to take the exams. He came in with quite a few credits. I do know that you can satisfy the Mizzou math requirement with a certain SAT/AP score, so maybe Calculus is one she could skip. Likewise, if you've had four years of a foreign language (maybe three? I don't remember), you've satisfied the language requirement. Suggest to your D that she read the j-school major requirements and call them if she needs to. They are so helpful.

I second Geezermom. Look into the requirements or call. I know that AP credits allowed my daughter to satisfy a lot of lower requirements and take more classes that interested her. It also allowed her to get into her sequence earlier and register earlier. She could have graduated early, but instead used those AP credits to spend a semester abroad. Also, she took only 12 credits when she had harder semesters, like the Missourian semester. She does have friends that graduated a year early due to AP credits and well-managed schedules. If you are out of state, it is nearly $600/credit. So any credits you can get through an AP exam is well worth it.
PS...we pay $82 per test. Well worth the $1800 tuition for a 3 credit class she can exempt.

Got a list of AP credit from one of my visits, and those classes listed would add up to 33 or 36 credits given the right scores.

Calc BC: 15 credits for 3 or higher
English Literature: 6 credits for 4 or higher
Spanish Literature: 3 credits for 3 or higher, 6 for a 5
Economics Macro: 3 credits for a 4 or higher
Econ Micro: 3 credits for a 4 or higher
Psychology: 3 credits for 4 or higher

The Spanish Language and Statistics classes would add 6 more.

I'd say it's well worth taking the exams. I don't think the journalism school has different requirements than the university itself.

Here's a link on the Mizzou website: http://admissions.missouri.edu/howtoapply/freshman/earnedCredit/app.php

And with these AP credits, you'd be able to get started on these requirements: Missouri School of Journalism: Non-Journalism Requirements.

Thank you all for your feedback. It was helpful.

We pay 86$. Each school charges a different amount for their registration fee though. Seems like your school is charging a lot.
