For senior year I have the option of taking AP Lit or English Comp I&II (dual credit, provided through MCC and = to 2 semesters of basic college english). Both courses are see as the same course rigor at my school and I was wondering if most colleges saw it that way. I know some colleges don’t accept for dual credit class credits but most of the colleges I plan on applying to give credit for college classes and ap scores. I’m conflicted on which one to take.
i recommend that you take the high school AP course rather than the community college course. You’ll be among your peers, and since it’s an AP course I expect these peers are among the most motivated and bright students at your school. You’ll have a strong connection with your fellow students and your teacher during class discussion. At the community college you’ll be among many students who for academic reason and perhaps cost reasons are not at a 4-year college. You’ll miss the social connection. Moreover while you’ll be taking college course it’s unlikely that the colleges to which you apply would view it as a “challenging” college course.
Acceptance for credit or placement depends on the colleges you are aiming for. Check each college’s “AP credit” and “transfer credit” web pages. In-state public universities and perhaps others that receive many transfer students from your area may have pre-made articulation agreements that show whether that college’s English courses are equivalent to their own courses.
