AP English Exams

I'm taking AP Lit and Language and have done practice multiple choice for each and have done well.. but I'm not sure how to approach the essays for each section.. I was wondering if you guys have any tips? What helped you to score well on them? Thanks!!

First tip, buy Princeton Review.
There are different strategies for Lit and Lac essays.

Lit
1.) If they give you a passage, quote liberally from it. A good mark is 2-3 quotes per paragraph. However, make sure your quotes are supported. Don't just throw them in there randomly.
2.) Open-ended question (essay #3): This one is a little harder. You should know at least 2 books or plays really, really well (I would recommend Great Expectations as one of them, because it has basically everything in it). That means symbols, themes, archetypes, everything. Make sure the two books cover different subject ideas. For example, don't study Hamlet and Othello, because they are too closely related. A really good one is The Awakening, by Kate Chopin, because it has just about every feminist idea you could want. And you cannot go wrong with Heart of Darkness; it is listed as a suggestion for almost every essay #3 question.

Lac
1.) Use quotes! If they give you something to quote from, use it to support your point

Both:
Don't fill it up with a bunch of b.s. fluff to make it look good, because readers will see right through that
