I was done with time to spare on the MC (like 10 minutes) and FR (like 20 minutes). i counted all the words in my essays. what followed was this line of logic...

1084 words in 1.66 hours.
653 words in one hour.
11 words per minute.
so i operate at .183 words of pure Building Slippage per second.

For some reason, that passage seemed familiar to me, like I read during some other test years ago. My only problem with MC is that I left a lot blank in order to go back to them. This worked fine, except I didn't get back to the last passage and left like 3-4 more blank than I meant to. If only I had 2-3 more minutes. Grr...

For the first essay I wrote about how the Keats poem was about more emotional things (like love) and how Longfellow's was more about the concrete (regret of the past. Did anyone else notice how that poem got shorter representing Death getting closer?)

For the second I talked about the subjective use of adjective and language, and how the whole thing represented Arun's alienation and longing (some BS in there...)

For the third I used Julia from 1984, who contrasted Winston's intellectualism with her physical hedonism. I also talked about how their union represented the coming together of physical sensations and intellectual ideals in love. I have never BSed more in my life. Oh well...

The last 2 MC sections killed me. I knew exactly where the final excerpt came from since my teacher is infatuated with that author, but the previous Michaelangelo junk totally threw off my concentration and confidence. In retrospect it was easy but I thought there had to be something deeper to it.

And I kinda messed up the open ended essay using Pride and Prejudice. I wrote about Mr. Bennet and Elizabeth only to realize that the minor character was a foil. So then about halfway through I had to incorporate that into the essay and focus on Mr. Bennet's absence all the while as he tried to show Elizabeth the superficiality of society.

yeah i wrote about pretty much the same thing as machine gun geek. Would any one consider the first essay poem a dramatic monologue since one of the lines had "thee" in it. Implied listener?

i think it went "if i could no longer look upon thee"

bleh the MC was okay until i got to the guy who was rambling on about rafael and even that dublin poem kind of messed with me.

i was so nervous for the open ended essay, so when we turned to open our booklets, we had to tear them out upside down remember? and so the first thing i saw was the 3rd essay prompt and i immediately scanned the list of books. then i saw the prompt and i (silently) cheered bc i had just written a 9 page report on albert camus' the stranger and it couldn't have fit more perfectly.

i couldn't think about poetic techniques for the keats/longfellow prompt and i was blathering on hoping that my flawless choice of diction and interesting sentence structure would give me a boost.

glad it's over though-shooting for the 5 ;]

Ended up using Death of A Salesman (Bernard) for the open question.

First FRQ was nice, both poems were good. Second FRQ was more difficult. WHAT SPEECH? SRSLY. There's like one line from the Mrs. Patton, and the main character asking a whole bunch of mental rhetorical questions,

The Rafael/Michalengelo MC passage I sort of liked, although it was really difficult to understand on first read. (And by that I mean impossible).

Who was the foil in the stranger? The priest?

Keats/longfellow I did imagery and diction and how they tied into tone.

For the Keats poem, I thought it was a positive take on death. Or at least it was positive compared to the longsfellow poem which was about regret.

IMPORTANT

How do you know whether or not you've crossed the line in discussing the questions? Is mentioning the names and what you thought it was about enough for them to destroy your test? I mean I'm not mentionin the prompt so I figured I'd be ok.

The MC I didn't have too much trouble with. There were only around 5 about which I had no idea, so I left them blank...
I didn't do too well on the first essay, but I feel fine about #2 and #3 (I used Frankenstein.)

I can't believe I didn't use DoaS. I regret that..... Luckily even if I magically get a 5 (or 4) this AP does nothing but give me a credit. I can't use it to waive any prereqs, and my college only allows one credit of non-major subjects from outside sources (sch as my 5 on APUSH from last year).

so i thought the whole thing was pretty easy. We took a really hard practice test in class so this was nothing in comparison. I used 1984 too but i used the parson family and Winston. I really wanted to do Julia but I didn't consider her a minor character so i was worried that would be a problem.

True, but I just thought of Winston as the only main character. I don't know. It's one point of view. The whole minor character line through me. Who remembers the minor characters? And who can write three pages on them? They are minor for a reason...

I used The Awakening also and explained how Adele Ratignolle served as the foil to Edna. Not sure if I did so well. My friend used Mademoiselle Reisz as the foil which I don't really think works, could it?

So does anyone have any opinion on what they would do if someone chose a major character (i.e. Jack from Lord of the Flies)?! Help me, I'm freaking out! Ahh!

I also used Hamlet and Laertes for the open-ended question. Did anyone think this exam was a lot harder than the AP Lang. exam last year? I got a 5 on AP Lang., but am really just hoping that I got a 4 for AP Lit. I left 4 multiple choice blank and think it was pretty difficult overall. I was kinda caught off guard by the first two essays but really think I nailed the last one.

That rubric on page 3 is really discouraging

Let's say I get a 6/8/9 on my essays, respectively (writing is my strength in English)...how many MC do I need to get a 5? I usually get 45/55 on MC, but I felt less confident about this one. I answered all the questions.
