Okay so this may sound silly but… You know how on the blank pages to write our essays on the lines like extend all the way to the edge of the page? If you write words like continuing from where there are lines to where there is no line is this ok?

They don’t scan it onto a computer like the SAT essays or anything do they?

I’ll just mention essay #3, which is all that matters. By the way, I thought essay #3 was EXTREMELY specific. Very difficult to write.

First off, I started by writing about Invisible Man; I wrote a huge paragraph, but wasn’t happy so I scratched out the entire paragraph. <— 15 minutes gone.

Then, I decided to write about Life of Pi. I had to mix things around to fit my thesis.

Thesis: Through Pi’s journey away from traditional Hindu beliefs, and through his journey on the lifeboat, Yann Martel attempts to make the reader “believe in God” and believe that religion is the “better story.”

I got some quotes in, supported my thesis, and had more analysis than summary. I did about all I could do.

^^ nope. lol. But that’s b/c I was just trying to write anything, since I only had 40 minutes to complete essay 1 & 2. I focused most of my time on essay 3.

Did anybody else notice that for essay #2, it said to use specifically tone, point of view, and language? It didn’t say: “use literary terms such as …”.

Essay 2 was horrible and like no one in my class knew what to write for it. Essay three wasn’t that specific, especially when compared with older essays. I used Jane Eyre for it. The MC was easy except for a couple of questions that seemed poorly worded. I COULD have used Things Fall Apart but I really didn’t want to get one of the names spelled wrong (Okonkwo, Obierika, Ekwefi, etc). I can spell them right now but knowing me, I would have spelled them wrong on the test.

1a1: Yeah, because #2 didn’t really have symbolism or imagery or any regular lit terms like that, so you had to go off of much more general things like pov. Which I think is fine, it made it easier to write because then you don’t get all bogged down in writing a whole paragraph about diction when they should be about theme, tone, etc.

Oh my god. I have never been so happy in my life. The poem was pretty do-able and the third one–Heart of Darkness waddupppp :). The second one was amazinggg! I think I nailed it.

No lies there, that test was a lot easier than all of my practice tests.

Yeah, it’s weird that it was so concrete this time. I’m sure that a bunch of people didn’t notice that… but I don’t know what else anyone would write about.

^ I think said friends will be fine. To be frank, I’m surprised they gave a “laundry list” of things they were looking for. In fact, your friends may have an advantage because I guarantee you that 85% of kids taking that exam used “tone, point of view, and language” as cornerstones in their essays.
I think I used syntax (language) & limited third person narrative (point of view). I wonder if that’s enough if I gave at least 2 examples for each and explicated clearly how they both affected the work…?

MC was awesome… so much easier than past exams
FRQ just bombed
i saw 2 hours and took a nap after scribbling for the first essay.wrote a sentence or two on the second essay and wrote a ballad for the third essay
