AP English Literature Thread 2012-2013

Most people are going to be seniors I assume. Most of us have already been accepted into English Lit. for the coming (and last! high school) year. What are your thoughts on the class? What do you expect to get out of the class? What assignments will you have to complete this summer?

This summer I have to read three books. I have to read The Elements of Style and journal about 6 strengths and 6 weaknesses. I also had to pick from Mansfield Park, Snow Falling on Cedars and another one, I picked Snow Falling on Cedars. We have to take notes, but not on anything in particular and I also have to read The Grapes of Wrath and do a page long journal entry on a given topic for each chapter.

I’m quite ready for the class; i did well in AP Lang. I just expect to get as much out of the class as i possibly can before i move on to college. And i have to read 3 books. One we get to pick and just read. And then we pick a module, pick two books from that, write a journal every 50 pages for each book, print out an article for each book and annotate it, and choose an essay question for each book and write a 500 word response.

I have one 100-page book to read, lol. There are 2 teachers at my school, one is extremely hard and everyone gets 5s, the other is extremely easy and the students don’t do well. Would’ve preferred the latter, but I have the former. At least I should do well on the AP exam, but I’d prefer to do well in the class.

I have to read Ellison’s Invisible Man. Third english book in a row about african american identity…I really wish we would read some Kundera, Kafka, or Marquez

Does anyone know what books comprise the course for this year? Vanity Fair is one, but what others are there?

I have to read “How To Read Literature Like A Professor” and apply 5 different chapters to novels I’ve read previously in school or other masterpieces or classic literature.

@NotMamaRose I’m sure it’s different for each school, because we’re definitely not reading that book at my school.

Basically what happened this year is, compared to you guys, we all held hands and sung kumbaya…no, not really. We didn’t have any summer assignments, though…

…And finished the test today! Phew.

I’m only confident in my essays! After taking two practice tests, I never got to finish. On the day of the actual ap test I’m surprised I finished the mc 10 minutes early. (´・_・`), and finished my essays right on time. ~

Then again, I did use Barrons, questions known to be more difficult than the actual ap test.
