So, for all you APEL's out there..... what are you doing in these final days to improve your writing abilities, and such?

And for those who have taken the exam? Any tips or tricks?

I'm focusing on reviewing for AP USH as I feel a lot less prepared for that, but I am going to go over the lit terms and elements again, because I always have trouble remembering those obscure, but higher level ones like metonymy. I'm not too worried about the essays though, just the MC.

Obviously I haven't taken the actual thing before, but we did take a full mock one for our final last term. Here are some tips:

-Long essays do get better grades, my teacher said that she's never seen a really long one get less than a 5, and she's been there to grade them before
-Make sure you ANALYZE, especially on the prose and poetry ones the readers know the story so regurgitating it won't help
-Use lots of data and interweave it into your analysis
-Don't be afraid to over-analyze a little or go out on a limb, graders aren't looking for perfection but for great style and arguing and analyzing. If the tone is fatalistic, then if you identify it anywhere close to that such as dark, foreboding and the such, then they won't care just as long as you analyze well.

thanks for the tips.... Now what about the Multiple Choice? I always seem to think that I'm getting it right, but then I check the answers, and it's like 3/30 right. Ha.

3 more days....

I think my class is screwed. On thte third question of the essays, you have to be able to remember the books you read during the year, and all the analysis that you did with the. My classmates don't have a good memory -.-

Make sure you are familiar with a specific novel.

Oh man... my class IS screwed for sure. My teacher didn't even KNOW the exam was this week!

I'm gonna be taking the test, though I didn't take AP Lit this year (or AP Language last year), I've been in regular English this year and last. I took a full practice exam last Friday, and was really surprised to get a 4 (I was just hoping to pass). Multiple choice is what saved me, my essays weren't that great.

The advice my teacher was giving is to really write a lot on the essays, go into a lot of detail, pretty much what erhswimming said.

Does the "small handwriting, LOTS OF WORDS" rule apply for these essays as well as they do for the SAT essay?
