AP English Language and Comp

Hola!

I am currently taking AP language + composition and the exam coming up is sort of worrying me. It is my teacher's first time teaching the course, or any AP course for that matter and it feels as if I am not prepared. How is this exam? Is there anything that I can do to study on my own? I've heard it is just like one big, hard critical reading section of the SAT, wrong or right? Any study tips or exam info?

take a practice test. see how you do.

i didn't think i was getting prepared at all until our class took a practice test mid-january. i got a 5, i was so shocked. especially b/c i had skipped 10th grade english, and jumped right into ap.

after that, i didn't really prepare. our class took one more practice test in between, and i reviewed a couple of the literary terms before the test. the main thing that helped me though was that i had an amazing teacher and we used to practice essays at least once a week or every other week.

i would suggest practicing essays from the collegeboard website. either ask your teacher to grade them or grade them yourself using the rubrics provided. this is my plan for this year. unfortunately i have a terrible teacher for ap lit.

also practice reading passages and interpreting them for the mc section. unfortunately there aren't a lot of mc tests out there.

though english might seem like a lot of luck and natural talent, i believe there is a little you can do to improve your chances. at least i hope so.

then again, we'll see this year. i got a 3 on our first practice test for ap lit. i'm hoping it's possible to study and end up with a 5 on the actual test.

good luck!
