I’m filling out my senior class schedule and came to this problem… If i take AP English, i might can pull it off for the fall semester, because my only sport then is cross country… But come spring semester, i’d be screwed because of baseball. We consistently have practices til 7, and game days we’ll get home between 10 and 12. This in no way leaves me time to do the amount of work that the AP teacher gives, along w/ my other classes… I spoke w/ my ALO bout it, and she says “i always tell my kids to take the highest course they can manage without sacrificing their GPA”… would taking accelerated hurt my chances of getting in even if i were to keep a good grade in it? thanks in advance :)

Hmm. Basically the only advice I can give is to say that, if it isn't going to hurt your overall grade drastically, go for it. If it is, don't.

For senior year, it probably wouldn't affect very much...
Then again, admissions can't see your last semester's worth of grades until they have decided whether or not to accept you. Therefore, unless you got a bad grade in AP, it wouldn't make much of a difference.

I would definatly say go for it. B/c like Raimus said, their going to have decide b4 baseball season, so as long as you dont get worse then a C you'll be fine.If push comes to shove scholastics are more important then sports anyways, unless you plan on playing at the IC level then...you just better get a C.haha

AP for the win

so is ee the general consensus is to go for it! lol... so i guess thats what i'll do. i'll need every possible advantage over anyone competing against me, and this may be one that puts me over the top, who knows :) thanks guys

I'd say for for it. Couple reasons why. First, even if you don't do stellar, they will have accepted you by then anyways! lol. Second, having the intensity will make the academic load when you get here less shocking. I like to emphasize that having a tough schedule will keep you working busy and you'll have an advantage coming in here. So go for it, but if you think you'll fail, then don't. lol

of course, the all-knowing hornet was bound to show up and give his fatherly advice to me :) haha thanks hornet... i think i'll go ahead and take it

of course your man with gray hair is here to advise. ;)

Woot, feeling more sorry for my squadron 4 digs, meet your chief clerk. ;)

how do you know that already?

8 of us interviewed yesterday in my new squad and they came by an hour later to let me know I got it. :)

I just got done taking the AP Euro exam about 15 minutes ago, and after 4 hours of non-stop fun with the Renaissance, Glorious Revolution, French Revolution, etc., I never want to take an AP exam ever again.

The only problem is that I can't change my senior schedule and have AP Chem on Tuesday.

Our guidance counselor has told us that colleges tend to take the course into consideration when looking at grades. What this means is that just because you get a B in AP when you could have got an A in accelerated (I assume that's a step below AP and one above regular?) doesn't necessarily mean it will significantly hurt your chances of getting into any college.

Hope that helps.

yea zach you're right..

and i'm gearin up for my AP Bio test monday and AP Eng (jr) wednesday.. my hs only offers AP: Bio, Jr English, Sr English, and Calculus.. and i'm takin the latter 2 next year! good luck to everybody who hasnt taken APs yet :)

Yeah, I just got done earlier today with my USHistory one. It wasn't bad and I'm glad I'm done, and I'm not too worried because I know I did well enough to get at least a 4 and probably (hopefully) a 5.

Since we're on the AP topic, will getting a 4 or 5 on European (or even American) history matter for the Air Force Academy? Would it possibly exempt me from an elective, or would it be some kind of required history course I don't know of? Any input is appreciated. Along the same thought, what courses are generally required for 4-digs? Thanks.

I don't know if there are validation tests on it in BCT, but a score of a 4 or most likely a five might allow you to validate out of the course if USAFA deems you worthy. Those who actually have the info, correct me if I'm wrong.

Gotta love the Academy website, so full of information! :)

Ha ha, thanks CadCandMateus.
