Ap Environmental Science 2011 Official Thread!!

Me, but I’m self-studying. And I have yet to make it past page 10 of PR. :P

So, Self studiers of Environmental Science. I will most likely be self-studying this for next year, and I was just wondering which books you used to review/prep for the exam.

The ones that I hear have a decent if not good rep are:

5 steps to a 5
or
Princeton Review

Anyone opinions?

Yeah, same here :P

pied what are you using?

anyone?bump

Barron’s was horrible. For all you late takers choose PR. Btw this year’s was hard soo… watch out, the retake one will be HARDER

I’m using PR. My friend gave me 5 steps to a 5 but I don’t like it

I never heard of 5 steps to a 5. Who is that from? Anyway, I used Princeton Review and it seemed to help me enough. The book had enough review information to help me relearn the information I learned in the first semester (in a block) and more. The practice tests seem to be easier than the actual test, but I guess it’s opinion. I feel good enough after taking the test, and to be honest, I prefer to not think about it to much. I’ll figure it out in July.

I am taking the late test and I self-studied. I just finished my Kaplan prep book, I thought it was pretty thorough. However I haven’t taken a practice test since I finished it… so I will see how much I actually know. I might also use the Barron’s book that my friend used for the regular test that he said he liked, but he actually took the class.

Just flipping through the Barrons book, they have a whole lot of things that were not in Kaplan… which kind of scares me… will it all be on the test? Or does Barron’s just put in useless information?

Looking through the released MC test, I do NOT recommend Kaplan… I only got it because it was the only one I could get on my nook cheaply.

I am definitely going to start reading the Barrons.

That late test was super hard…

really? how?

Holy crap that was hard.

Well, the multiple choice was hard, and the frq’s were hard, so the test was Super hard. lol what do you mean how

I didn’t think it was that bad. You only need to get less than 70% to get a 5 after all.
As for the FRQ, I felt it was alright besides the first question.

Hypothetically, how does one calculate the average slopes of mountains in terms of % based on a contour map?

Hypothetically, I think it’s (altitude of higher point-altitude of lower point)/(altitude of lower point) x 100%

Out of curiosity, did the math subparts of #1 and #2 seem to not work out perfectly? Like, I was doing my long division and just decided to truncate to 3 decimal places since it seemed like the answer wouldn’t end.

Also, did anyone use calculus for 4(d)? :D

I don’t know. My dad wants me to help build a couch, and he asked me about some sort of chemical used in furniture… anybody know what he’s talking about?

I thought that was really hard. I completely messed up on the first one. I can’t do math in my head, so my estimates were way off and the last part in one of the questions i just left blank because I didn’t know how to do the math for that.

I think your dad might be talking about formaldehyde, but I am not completely sure.

I used calculus for 4(d) :)

I’m planning on self-studying for APES, do you guys think that it is do-able?

Also, any tips on any review books to get? Pr, barrons

Please help I would appreciate it :)
