AP Exam after College Course

Do college courses cover the same information as an AP course? I ask because I want to take a few AP exams that my school doesn’t have the class for, but we can go to our local university to take them. If they do, I would want to take Chemistry and Physics and Biology, if it depends on in which subject area.

Short answer - it depends. In general, a college class should cover most of the material, but you might need to self study certain topics. Compare the college syllabus with the AP syllabus to get an overview.

If you take the college class you’ll be awarded credit from that college- why would you also want to take the AP for the same thing? Isn’t that like double dipping?

While the college that one takes the class will grant credit, there is no guarantee that the OP’s ultimate college will accept the credit. Many colleges do not accept credit for college courses taken in HS, so the AP exam is one way that a student can potentially get credit and/or placement. @milgymfam .

This is also a good time to point out that when applying to college, most colleges will need the transcript of any college courses. Additionally, if one is premed, any college courses taken in HS count for the med school GPA regardless if the college accepts the course for credit.
