Does anyone know how AP exam incident reports typically play out? My daughter took a foreign language AP exam last week. During the exam, a bell to change classes sounded during the listening portion, making it difficult (impossible?) to hear about 5 seconds of the listening portion. Also, there was some confusion as to the end time of the exam, leading some students to believe they had 4 minutes more to complete the exam than what they actually had. As I understand it, a friend of my daughter felt negatively affected by these irregularities and, with assistance from the school’s AP coordinator, filed an incident report. My daughter, in an effort to vouch for her friend’s concerns, says she also signed an incident report, even though she did not feel negatively affected: 1) she said the listening portion was played twice, and she caught the missed portion the second time around, and 2) she had made a more accurate personal note of the correct end time and thus finished on time. The school’s AP coordinator says it is up to the College Board to investigate and determine how to proceed. There’s no chance of this incident report somehow invalidating a score for my daughter, is there?
No, the score will not be invalidated. And I doubt that there will be any further action taken by the CB. Bells in a school are a fact of life. The standard response for time is that it is the students’ responsibility to know how much time they have left.
CB May record a note on their score that there was disturbance. Also if there was a clock in the room then it was student’s responsibility to keep time.
