AP exams.

Hi I am not sure if I am posting this question at the correct forum but I couldn’t find a forum for AP exams. I have a problem my son completed AP courses from John Hopkins these are two history courses. I called college board to get names of the schools that could perhaps host his AP test none of the schools accept outside students. My own school district is not administering AP tests can some one advise which way i should turn?

Call around to neighboring schools. Private schools may be more accommodating, but no school (unless local law supersedes) is under any obligation to offer exams to students who are not registered at that school.

Ok … I will do that .i feel like there isn’t any school that’s ready to accommodate him. I have been going in circles from past two months !

You might need to keep expanding the circle until you find a school to accommodate.

You are looking now for the tests given in May? You are running out of time, as most schools have ordered their exams already. Call private schools and homeschool hybrids; they may be more willing to help. But keep calling. I homeschooled one of my kids through multiple AP exams and had an easy time of it, but I know it has been harder for a lot of parents. But, nearly everyone eventually finds a testing location. Be prepared to travel. If you give us a city you are near, perhaps some homeschoolers or former homeschoolers could give you some ideas.

I found out recently that our local community college offers AP and SAT testing (not sure why or even how often those services get used when there are at least six high schools within a 20-minute drive). You might find that option open to you, however.

I believe the College Board web site has a list of test locations. We’re talking name and address only. It is only a basic list of who is proctoring the exam - they won’t tell you IF you can get a seat there or whether they take outside students. But you can use the list as a basis to start calling places for as far away as you are willing to drive.

This year registration for the exams was in October. At this point you are looking at paying a late fee on top of having difficulty finding a seat.

Check nearby public schools as well

Hello thank you so much for your prompt reply. Yes I have been trying to navigate him from past two months have been calling all day on my days off but no results I live near Edison if you have any leads I will call them tomorrow morning

@ groundwork2022 I live in Edison NJ and yes I am willing to travel.

I hear parochial schools could agree to host. Tell them you are will to pay late fees and if you are willing to pay, offer to pay proctoring fees as well. If your son has any awards or good test scores, mention it as well. Schools don’t know your son and they don’t want to bother with the liability. So the more comfortable you can make them feel, the more chance you will have.
Also try alternative high schools. Didn’t use it myself, but heard somewhere on the list that for a fee, and a hefty fee, they will proctor it.

Hi I found a place for him too much late fees and 30 mins drive but it’s all worth it thank you all it really helped me a lot

Great that it worked out - if not with the ideal resolution. Good luck to him.

Well the late fees make sense since you past the October deadline so I can’t blame the school for that but I’m glad it worked out. It would be nice if the college board would keep and publish a list of locations that accept non students to make this an easier process.

Hello everyone, here again I am in a tough situation with AP exams. This time around we preregistered and everything is on track. But I received an email yesterday from the public school where my son is taking AP tests ( he prepped on his own) that there would be two exams Spanish and AP calc BC offered at the same time . I did email school back but have not heard anything back yet. Can some one here advise what should be my next steps. He has put in a lot of time and effort into these to have something like this happen ! Thank you everyone

There are 3 possible test windows. In no instance is calc and Spanish tested at the same time or even the same day. The school cannot deviate from the dates/times the CB states.

Thank you for your reply, I have emailed the school and they mentioned that they are speaking with the director. I am not sure why and how they have done this, but what are the options am looking at. If they tell me there is nothing they can do who do I contact or appeal to? Thank you again so much !

Hopefully they will come back and say they misread, since offering exams outside the approved window puts every score from that test center at risk.

Hello,

Thank you for your response. I have not received any reply back from the school. I am not sure what I should be doing at this point should I just wait for the school or call college board and escalate the matter ? Any advise is appreciated!

Contact the school if no response in a couple of days and escalate with school administration if no response. I would not go to CB until you have spoken with the Header of School.

Ok thank you
