Interest, interest, interest. The non-AP equivalents of most of the courses at my school eg US history versus APUSH, are already enough work that I won’t risk an AP just because “colleges want me to”.

Let’s see… I refuse to take history APs and AP Bio because they require more memorization than anything else - that isn’t what I want from a course. Granted, the subject matter is interesting, but I’d rather take a course that emphasizes more thinking.

APCS because I LOVE PROGRAMMING and there’s no non-AP programming course
Lang because I love English
Lit because I love English
Chem because Honors Chem was really fun
Physics B because it seems interesting
Music Theory because it looks very very very interesting (I’m not even planning to major in anything music related, so this is out of pure interest)
Calc because, well, there’s no other math course to take, and I love math
Chinese because I should and because I’ll thank myself in the future (and it is kind of interesting I suppose xD)

Only take it if you’re interested. If you’re not interested, you’ll find it a lot harder to do the work.

Personally, I’m not a big history person in the sense of learning about regimes and how government works and who fought who. I’m much more interested in the individual stories of the people in history, so I only took one AP history, US, because you get to go in to a bit of that because it’s only 200 years and one country.

This year I took AP art history because I love art, and I’ve learned SO MUCH about artists and movements and what art is. It’s made me a better artist, too. But last year I took an AP I didn’t care about, Eng Lang, and I had a B- in the class and a 4 on the exam.

(ETA: Muscovy, I don’t know if you’re taking physics b now or not, but I’ve heard it’s hell. You have to move superfast so it’s all memorization, because they don’t have the time to prove stuff to you. Take physics C if you can…)

I have taking World History exam , scored a 3. This year in May , I’m taking the UShis test. Next year , I’m taking Macro, Govt, and EuroHis tests.

I take APs for a better looking transcript, but I dont just take any random AP that my school offers, of course, I would only take the ones that interest me, and if I can handle it.

I take them because if I didn’t, I’d be bored to tears and too busy being upset with our society’s low standards to get my work done. I’m a senior, and while my classmates are taking it easy, I’m in 6 AP classes. I still don’t start my homework until 10.

@ Lima: I’m taking it now. Yup, there are quite a lot of things to memorize, but on a whole my teacher’s been pretty good about explaining the “why”, not just the “how”, and it’s required more thinking than anything else. The pacing isn’t too bad and the class is fun ^^
Art History looks fun, but I have no space for it :(
