I’m going to take:
AP English Lang
AP Physics
APUSH
AP Macroeconomics
AP Calc BC
AP English Lit
AP Psychology
AP Statistics

I take these because I need my schedule to be rigorous, as well as because I do very well in English, social studies/history, math, and science.

I have interests in math and economics though, which is why I’m taking AP Calc, AP Macro, AP Stats (while taking concurrently with Multivariable Calculus)

Because I’m interested it and it gets me away from all the sketchy people who don’t care about school; potential college credit is a bonus.

Currently taking AP World: I like history, and regular classes are NOT a challenge for me at all in that department.

Going to take:

APUSH- Love US history even more than World
AP Language- I like reading a writing a lot.
AP Biology- Regular science isn’t that much of a challenge and I like Biology.
AP Physics- Pretty interesting stuff.

And as I said, I’m also def taking them as well because I really don’t like being in classes with kids who are disrespectful to the teacher, rude, don’t care, etc.

I’m also going to take dual-enrollment classes senior year for the same reasons.

I’m taking them mostly because you almost have to take them to get into a decent college. The regular classes at my school are fairly mind-numbing anyway.

APs I’m currently taking:
English Literature
Chemistry
Biology
U.S. Government
U.S. History
Statistics
Calculus BC

APs I’ll probably take next year:
Physics C: E&M
Physics C: Mechanics
English Language

I have taken/will take
APUSH
AP English Lang
AP Latin
AP English Lit
AP Bio
AP Calc
AP Human Geography

I took APUSH and the English AP’s because I knew I wouldn’t be challenged in the regular courses and I do very well in those subjects. I took Latin and will take Human Geo and Bio because I have genuine interest in those subjects. Calc is partly for credit, and also to make my transcript look better, and to challenge myself as well.

Generally, I take APs because I want to learn about a subject in a little more depth than usual, or when I want a more challenging schedule. College credit can sometimes play a role, for instance when I took AP Studio Art last year (I am TERRIBLE at art).

In the classes I’m especially passionate about (math, physics) I couldn’t care less about college credit. Even if I’m denied credit for, say, AP Physics C, it won’t matter because I’ll just skip through the class using a placement exam.

I take them because I have a general interest on them. If I’m not interested in something and see no personal benefit, I’m not taking the class.

AP Human Geography - awesome as heck teacher…had to have his class
AP Government - only class offered at the class period I had open
AP English - I was just placed in this class…to be honest I have no clue how I ended up in there
AP Environmental Science - AP Chemistry got canceled and I heard this class went on tons of “exploring”
AP Psychology - great teacher
AP Chemistry - Waited over two years to take this class; awesome teacher; love Chemsitry
AP Physics B - I needed a physics class
AP Calculus BC - also have no clue how I ended up in this class…doing just fine

The college credit is honestly a huge plus and will help me in the long run.

33% College credit
33% adding rigorous course load to transcripts
33% interesting topics. I try to take AP classes I think I would actually enjoy.

Taken:
AP Calc BC
AP Lang & Comp (self-study)

Currently Taking:
AP Stats
AP Literature
AP Physics C: Mech
AP Microeconomics

Very much like @wigglechoo, my decision to take AP Courses/tests has been to challenge myself in areas that I find interesting, appeal to colleges by building a rigorous schedule, and also increasing my chances of opting out of colleges courses and getting ahead on credits. I also know that in the case I dont get credit, I will still have been exposed to the material so I will have an edge when I get exposed to it a second time in college.

AP US Gov-required. It was either that or regular gov which would have been full of slackers
AP Chem- Legitimately interested in Chem. I love it
AP Microecon- I dropped IB Film and needed a class to fill second semester. Pretty fun though
AP BC Calc (will take)-sounds interesting, I’m good at math
AP Physics C (will take)- I loved honors Physics and I need a Science
AP Stat (will take)- sounds interesting easy and fun, I’m good at math

IB isn’t exactly AP but…
IB Euro- Interested in subject
IB English- Was supposed to be more interesting and easier than AP Lang
IB/AP French- Interested in French and I don’t want to drop it

Mostly I take them because I’m interested and because Honors is super easy and full of slackers. I haven’t actually thought about college credit that much though

to look good went applying to college I have taken/will take:
AP Physics
AP chem
AP psychology
AP calc
AP us
AP French
AP environmental science
Possibly ap English
AP statistic
AP computer science
Ap Biology

Have taken:
AP Physics B
AP Physics C
AP Calculus AB
AP Calculus BC
AP Economics

The first four will be major-related for me, so it’s a mixture of college credit and interest. The last isn’t major-related, but I’ll probably use it for elective credit.

Currently:
AP US History (knowledge of US history helps me in debate and other aspects, I like being able to participate in a conversation and know what I’m talking about)

Next year:
AP English Language and Composition (it was either this or World Literature and I really hate literature classes. I really don’t even want to take this class tbh but I heard a 4/5 will get me out of some freshman writing classes in college)

AP Statistics (I’m genuinely interested)

AP Economics (I’m genuinely interested, possible Econ major)

AP Psychology (It’s a senior only class and we get to talk about Freud, there’s no way I’m missing the memories this class could bring)

AP Biology (Well I needed a science class and the AP Bio teacher convinced me to take it, so here I go.)

I enjoy learning, so I take the class. If I don’t like the subject, I don’t take it; it’s that simple.

Have taken/taking:

10/11th grade:
AP US History: I like history, so it was interesting. My teacher was decent, and it was a fairly simple AP exam. Overall, decent class.
AP Language: I really like writing too, so this class was simple. The weekly essays were a drag, but not too hard, and I managed pretty decently.
AP World History: Fantastic. Loved the subject material, teacher and atmosphere. I still remember most of it.

Senior Year:

AP Physics C (E&M and Mechanics): Absolutely fantastic. Really good teacher, very interesting subject material, and really interesting discussions.
AP Literature: Again, I love writing, and most of the class is just philosophical debate, which I really enjoy.
AP Calc AB: Great class too. I like Math anyway, and since there is no BC in our school, our teacher is offering after school sessions to all interested to help us learn the BC topics so we can take that test.
AP Bio: Eh…not too great, honestly. I thought I’d like it, but it’s more of just memorization and boredom.
AP Gov: Great subject material, but a really boring teacher, though I enjoy our current events discussions.

Taking:
AP Biology (taking because it’s a pre-req for Neurobio, otherwise the rest of the biological field isn’t all that fascinating to me)
AP Chemistry (interested in the subject, also trying to “redeem” the B+ I got in summer school Chem 1)

Will Take:
AP Calculus BC (feels obligatory where I’m from)
APUSH (interested)
AP Russian (interested, really want to become fluent)
AP Macro/Micro (interest, and it’s the AP option of filling up a required credit)
AP English Lit (interested)
AP US Gov (required)
AP Statistics (interested)
