Ap Importance

Hi! Canadian student here. Really confused right now. My guidance counselor (and university prep helper) said that in order to apply to Cambridge/Oxford (I want to go there for geography) you need 5 AP tests with a 5 mark, and nothing else (so far as standardized tests go). When I went on collegeboard, it said you only needed 3 AP tests with a 5 mark. The Oxford website says this: “We understand that many Canadian students may take the International Baccalaureate, or tests (SATs and APs) from the American education system alongside their Canadian qualifications. Any of these qualifications may be sufficient to make a competitive application to Oxford” What does that mean?? What do I need in terms of standardized tests to get into either of these schools?
Sorry for being so thickskulled, I’m just really confused. Thanks so much for the help!

Email them directly

No need to email them: skip your GC, skip collegeboard, and stick with the Unis themselves.

Oxford’s statement simply means that you can apply with your choice of Canadian, IB or US qualifications, and the requirements for each are laid out- in detail- on the website. Cambridge works the same way. If applying with APs, Oxford requires 3, Cambridge 5. You can only apply to one or the other so read the course descriptions really carefully and choose the one that looks the most interesting to you.
