How doable would either/both be for independent studies?

My brother crammed bio in a week and scraped a 5. I'm nowhere as smart as him, but I can say that if you find bio interesting or don't mind memorizing a lot of details, then you shouldn't have much trouble. Having taken the APES class, I can say that if you're sufficiently motivated (i.e. not caught up by senioritis) you'd save time by self-studying instead.

Both very doable. The AP Bio exam has an insane curve; I've known people who got enough points on multiple choice alone to get a 5.

I know a few people who did independent study for AP Environmental Science, and easily made 5s. I've taken the test myself (after the actual course, though), and it's very intuitive, rewarding a good general knowledge of "applied science".

Go for it.

Ok, I'm doing it then. Sweet. My schedule this year....so amazing it's not even funny. I'm enjoying all my classes, and even lit is tolerable.
AP Physics C, Mech and Emag
AP Chem
AP Calc BC
Orchestra (2nd of four, concertmaster)
Hon. American lit
AP Bio and AP Enviro indep
AP CS A (trying to do some odd combo of class + indep study so I can do AB for the second half of the year...we're not on block).

So amazingly amazing. I stopped trying to cram in AP's I don't want just to raise my GPA and boom...life rocks. Swap (AP) World, Language, Euro for Chem, Physics, Comp sci...Yay a lot.

Good luck; challenging yourself is always an excellent path to follow. You either succeed and realize you're capable of more than you thought, or fail (in part or completely) and amend your expectations, work ethic, and plans to be more in line with reality.

Either way, you become a more adequate individual.

R'amen - my thoughts exactly.

I can't say anything about Bio AP (because I never took it), but I did Enviro AP during my senior year in high school, and despite spending most of the free response section writing a review of the play I saw the night before and an essay about how planting magical halibut would solve world soil problems, I still got a five. It's really quite an easy test as long as you have a good grasp of general science.

Michael, are you serious?? If that's what you really did, I'm going for AP Enviro!
