On the first essay, I did try to mold the documents to my argument, but it seemed like all the articles said the same thing. The calculation about "time spent getting pennies = money for consumer" just didn't make sense to me. You could apply that to brushing your teeth and say that it's costing America billions a year. Everyone's working the same hours and earning the same salaries regardless (not to mention that no one would pay me fifteen dollars/hour for my time); you aren't going to come across more capital. "Time is money" is only a metaphor. Maybe pennies cost more to make than they're worth and thus should be eliminated, but I wasn't given that information. I guess I'll just hope the grader takes mercy upon my soul and the other two essays can make up for it, though my third wasn't brilliant either.

No, time actually is money. Think about the statement a little more and you'll realize why it's true.

I do agree with the general consensus here. The MC was a bit easier than expected but never turns out perfectly, but I do worry that the FRQ were far too simplistic. Even the rhetorical analysis was very straightforward, although there was an abundance of things you could do with that. The synthesis and the persuasive were very difficult to make something substantive out of. I don't know what an "8" or "9" would look like on those particular essays. However, the CB might be trying to boost the number of 5's (only ~9% or something last year) so maybe the essay grading is a touch more lenient. We'll see.

Although there's not a ton of variance on the curve unless you have a really weird day on the MC, I'm pretty confident that I got at least 38/55 and 21/27 for a solid 5.

I don't presume to know much about economics, so don't overestimate my reasoning skills. I truly cannot fathom why, in the instance laid out in the document with the MIT kid, time would be equivalent to money.

I didn't like the synthesis but tried to care about the issue. Analysis.. not so bad. Argument was random but easy. I think I might have gotten a 4... we'll see.

Man was I glad to see the removal of those darn roman numeral questions! Out of all the practice tests I've done this year, I've rarely gotten any of those right. The MCs were FAR easier than any of the practice exams we've done. We usually use this "50 Essays" book for practice questions on a weekly basis and a prep book at the end, but the test seemed far more straightforward and not so ambiguous. I felt a lot more confident about a lot of my answers since I could really narrow down most of the questions.

The essays...wow. Synthesis was a breeze, I loved the rhetorical analysis, but I felt that I didn't perform my best on the argument essay. The argument is usually my strongest, but for some reason I didn't have enough time to completely develop my thoughts, so I just wrote a rather bland, yet solid essay. It also reminded me of an FCAT essay from last year, so that was a bit of a turn off.

I was a in a bit of a bad mood when starting the exam because my school actually FORGOT to order only my exam, so I was in limbo for about 10-15 minutes until they figured out that there was an extra. Really lame, yet not surprising for my school. I would've been ***ed if I couldn't have taken it today because of *their slip up. I'm surprised that I performed as well as I did starting out with that little scare.

I hope that's sufficient, because it's pretty much what I did, though I made something up about the rhetorical questions moving the reader into the mindset of the scientific method.

Yeah, MC was pretty good. The first passage was hard to understand, left a couple blank in that section. Synthesis topic was random, but I felt I did a good job with it. I felt like the 2nd essay's answer was practically spoon fed to us. It was obvious what the author's purpose was. I just used FAP on that one. Frame Audience Purpose. Third essay was easy. It was so easy to argue for the pro side. I think I'm screwed though, because I need a 5 to get credit at my college next year : (

springflower: thats basically what i said too..
i thought MC was kinda hard, esp the first passage. that totally threw me off.
hoping for at least a 3!

AHhhh I'm so happy!!! I only had trouble on one passage (misread passage 2....), but my essays were beast (I think). I'm expecting 9,8,7 respectively. :)

yeah, we had to provide evidence from both sides.
but i jst basically argued for one side; like i wrote
While blahblahblah(con), blahblahblah(pro)...

yeah, that's what i did too. i had 15 min. for #3, because i spent 1 hr. writing #1 (which rocked!), so i was like con... pro... then in my conclusion, i wrote about my views. lol.

I don't think I wrote enough...I wrote 1.5 pages for all 3 questions. What I did write was pretty good, but I couldn't write much more then 1.5 pages and still do that well.

How much did you guys write for the essays?

multiple choice was a struggle for me... i think i left around 9 blank. and then i probably got like every other one wrong :)

essays were bomb though.. i definitely raped them!! which made me happy.

i also drew the AP graders a nice little picture because i had an extra 10 minutes at the end of the essay. i hope that will boost my score! just kidding

nightsd,
1.5 pages should be enough... i wrote 2 pages, 1.5 pages. 1.75 pages.
but almost all of the examples of good essays my class has been given about are that size too, so it'll just depend on quality

MC wasn't bad :D
Essays, messed up on the rhetoric one. DBQ type one was really good, the third was pretty crappy - ran out of time. did it like my SAT essay.
