zfox: antithesis is when something is completely opposite to what is expected.

i don't remember putting down antithesis, then again. I may be totally wrong. =/

Ok......................................................

rade: i think i put oxymoron for that Q too.
but most people i talked to put antithesis.
bleh

isnt antithesis the opposite of a word or phrase like if i were to say the happiest moments are never remembered and then say the most devastating moments are always remembered

Sitting on the other side of the fence, it is interesting to NOT know and NOT hear how everyone did. My best kids said they killed the APMC, and went 887 on the essays, many were 60% 665, so hopefully they got it. Those should pass. I just hoped for a fair test-the one two years ago was REALLY tough, so I think from this preliminary that it sounds like a test that would separate those who can from those who can't...

Lightzout-

antithesis is parallel structure of opposing themes/ideas like you said. Oxymoron is "giant shrimp"

I've always thought of antithesis as short, such as "sink or swim" or "live or die."

Juxtaposition is on contrasting ideas.

I wrote about rhetorical question, insightful diction, and analogy. I felt like I did a good job on that one so I'm hoping for a 6/7.

bleh. .

I put celebratory and i think i said unfettered

oh and this is definitely not about mc

is there usually one of each type of essay on the exam? (prompt, synthesis, rhetoric)

it can be, but that doesn't define it. any of the "x" are contrast-juXtaposition, oXymoron, adn CHIasmus, Chiaroscuro. Antithesis is two opposing ideas.

yes, carsonne, there is always one of each. prompt being persuasive style.
